"I didn't try to identify myself, or ask myself who I was. The less questioning I did about myself as to who I was, the more comfortable I felt. So now I have no knowledge of who I am, but I'm extremely happy" (note: this was in reference to the time AFTER his youth which was full of him trying to figure out who he was).

Internet observations start at 7:00 (seven minutes in), btw.

[compared to Rock & Roll in the 70's] "Now it's the Internet that carries the flag of being subversive and possibly rebellious and chaotic, nihilistic and...forget about Microsoft. Monopolies don't have a monopoly on the programming."

"There's a new de-mystification between the artist and listeners"

So...20+ years later, did the Internet become/remain an element of rebellion? Or is it now just a fully commercialized form of consumer-centric entertainment?

Then he goes into touting the Internet of 1999 as being the opposite of the 1970's because the Internet was, "making available multiple sides to each question".

Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox News, would agree. Sadly, objective truth was lost somewhere along the way.

IMO, this was a quaint video (Bowie: "Do you have any idea how expensive it is to get involved in the Internet?" ) . He - WE - had no idea back then just how the Web would become a tool for social manipulation, control and above all, profit. The days when it was possible to get a static IP and simply hang a server on it to actually be part of the Internet itself (rather than just supply marketing data in the form of conversations and view tracking) are sadly long gone.
