DeSantis & his laws remind me of an inherit the wind clip.

“Can’t you understand? That if you take a law like evolution and you make it a crime to teach it in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools? And tomorrow you may make it a crime to read about it. And soon you may ban books and newspapers. And then you may turn Catholic against Protestant, and Protestant against Protestant, and try to foist your own religion upon the mind of man. If you can do one, you can do the other. Because fanaticism and ignorance is forever busy, and needs feeding. And soon, your Honor, with banners flying and with drums beating we’ll be marching backward, BACKWARD, through the glorious ages of that Sixteenth Century when bigots burned the man who dared bring enlightenment and intelligence to the human mind!”

william jennings bryan was our nominee twice (his first run was as a populist) and the tennessee legislature was solidly democratic.

i wish we had an orator of bryan's skill, but we are well rid of those fanatic and ignorant legislators.

inherit the wind had an all stat cast and was nominated for best picture. "the apartment" with shirly mclaine and jack lemon won that year. i don't even remember that one.

The apartment was a great movie about a somewhat controversial topic. But a movie set in Tennessee vs one in NY, not a chance. I would have voted for Wind.

The "Moral Majority", which was neither, proposed but spectacularly marched it's blinders-on following off the cliff.
Now we've had decades of Fox-News zombie self-righteous drumhead ignorance pounded into these cult freaks. It's the same old shell game, but this time played with extra fervor.

I often wonder how Frank would have reacted to Trump and the whole MAGA-cult phenomenon.

He saw this happening so many years ago. 😔 There weren't a whole lot of people who paid attention to Frank in the U.S. They glanced at him, saw a "weirdo", and dismissed him. He left us far too early.

If you can tell a woman she has to carry a baby you can tell a woman she can’t. Who will make those decisions. It’s happened in this country before…marching backwards.

That's what DeSantis would say in response to that paragraph: "You say that like it's a bad thing!"

What we consider a bug, he sees as a feature. That's what makes him so dangerous.
