(33,643 posts)Trying to overwhelm him, given the large knife, involved at least a small possibility that in so doing, one or both may've been injured, perhaps even fatally.
But they're trained that their job is never to risk their lives (or even physical harm) if they can possibly avoid it, no matter what the cost is to any members of the public. And society largely goes along with this premise.
Personally think they should all have tranquilizer darts in the trunk as a fallback when tazing doesn't work.
