Related: About this forumTurkey Blocks Sweden's NATO Bid as Trade Deficit Hits $109 Billion & Economic Crisis Deepens
Turkey has recently been hit with two massive earthquakes which have caused devastation and mass loss of life. In addition to this it is facing a Huge Cash Crisis as a combination of the crash in the value of the Turkish Lira, rising fuel prices and a negative Balance of Trade has resulted in a $109 Billion Current Account Deficit. Added to this INFLATION in January is still running at over 57% putting more financial pressure on the people of Turkey. In this video I provide more details and insight into these issues as well as discussing the ongoing Veto of Sweden & Finland's applications to join NATO.

(8,820 posts)2. And add the devastation
to their country by a massive earthquake...........Their vote intentionally denied two countries from becoming part of NATO to make Putin Happy.
Soooooo, how about Turkey only getting aid with all the destruction from Russia/Putin, and the U.S. and NATO countries just standing back.........
In reality, the same could be said when the RED states in the U.S. tear apart the federal government, but a hurricane or flood hits their state and they are screaming their heads off for Washington to send them aid and money. Then when their state crisis is over, the get right back on the "Socialism" is bad propaganda 24/7/365. Same thing occurs with the massive amount of "Corporate" Welfare handed out....

ISTANBUL Turkish companies last year exported tens of millions of dollars worth of machinery, electronics, spare parts and other items that Russia needs for its military, according to a survey of trade data, showing how Moscow can fuel its war effort despite international sanctions.
At least 13 Turkish firms exported a total of at least $18.5 million worth of items, including plastics, rubber items and vehicles, to at least 10 Russian companies sanctioned by the U.S. for their role in Russias assault on Ukraine, the data show. The Turkish companies sent at least three shipments of American-made goods, according to the data reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
Turkish firms also sent another $15 million in American-made elevators, electric generators, circuit boards and other items to Russia in violation of U.S. export controls designed to starve Russia of vital military equipment from March to October 2022, the data show.
The U.S. and more than 30 other countries imposed sanctions on Russia last year in response to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, attempting to deprive the Kremlin of funds, weapons and technologies it needs to wage war. Turkey, which is a North Atlantic Treaty Organization ally, is among a number of countries that have said they wont enforce those sanctions.
