Trump Will Reportedly Accept Subpoena From Proud Boys - Ring of Fire

Last edited Thu Feb 23, 2023, 03:27 AM - Edit history (1)

The Proud Boys have been trying to get a subpoena for Donald Trump to appear at their trial, and a Politico reporter says that Trump's team has CONFIRMED that they will accept the subpoena. Acceptance doesn't necessarily mean that he'll comply, and there's a good chance they'll try to get it squashed by the courts. But the real question is what do the Proud Boys think will happen if they get Trump on the stand anyway? Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

So it's been a bit of a wild riot over the last week with the, uh, proud boys facing their Seditious conspiracy trial. And for several weeks they have wanted to subpoena Donald Trump to come and testify as a witness at their trial. Now, we don't know if it's gonna be as a friendly witness or as a hostile witness. We don't know because they haven't been able to successfully subpoena him because as, as they said, um, he's always surrounded by Secret Service. So you can't just walk up to him and hand him the subpoena. So they reached out to the DOJ over the weekend and said, DOJ, we we're gonna need your help. We wanna subpoena Donald Trump to come in and testify at our Seditious conspiracy trial. Now, the DOJ never had a chance to act because as Politico's child, uh, Kyle Cheney reported yesterday, Trump's lawyers have signaled that, okay, we'll accept the subpoena.

Go ahead and send it on over. We will take the subpoena. Now, to my knowledge, I have not been able to find any information as to whether or not that has happened yet. But Kyle Cheney has a pretty good track record, pretty reliable guy. I will take his word for that. If he says that is what Trump lawyers have signaled. Now here's the thing everybody needs to understand, cuz this could be a big one if Trump shows up to court. Uh, first and foremost, acceptance of the subpoena does not mean that Donald Trump accepts the terms to go to court. It just means that we're willing to take the physical thing from you and be served. They can still and likely will challenge it in court. And that is a challenge. Believe it or not, Trump's probably gonna win. Trump was not a material witness to what the Proud Boys did on January 6th in the Capitol.

Trump was not there. He was not present. He was, however, at the Stop the steal rally. And he did later on in the day issue the statement, proud boys, stand back and stand by. But that statement stand back and stand by. Um, actually that was at the September, 2020 debate. I'm sorry. So maybe, maybe, but that was September. Then they did this in January, uh, of 2021. Is that really a call to action? Because he didn't give him a specific date. He said, stand by. So I don't know. Furthermore, and this is where things get really interesting, suppose Donald Trump shows up and he takes the stand and they start asking like, did you say stand back and stand by? You'd have to say, well, yes I did. Did you tell them to fight like hell at that stop the steal rally to save your country? Well, yes I did. All right then. Then what? Like then what does the proud Boys lawyer ask? Like, ah, aha.

See, he said the things that we all already know. He said Trump is not on trial for that one. He's got his own, you know, lawsuits, he's facing over all of that. Sure, but this ain't it. Not to mention we have seen plenty of other capital rioters, which at the end of the day is basically what the proud boys are. Um, we have seen plenty of them try to invoke the, Trump gave me permission to do it thing and judges have said, yeah, he may have, but he ain't on trial in my courtroom. And you are, and you still did it, and you are guilty as hell. So even if the proud boys and their lawyers get Trump up on the stand, even if he says, yep, I gave him permission to do it, the judge is gonna say, cool, then y'all are still guilty of everything you've been charged with and this changes nothing.
