That's what really sucked in all the male retirees, all those bottle blondes in their ultra short skirts with enough men on set to set them straight about anything they said that was vaguely unorthodox GOPism. While those old coots were glued to the screen, hoping Miss Clairol would shift in her seat and give them the money shot, the endlessly repeated slogans and lies penetrated. They'll say they prefer the relaxed atmosphere to the newscaster properly dressed and sitting at a desk, we all knew what they really meant.

So don't expect Pox to change their format and don't expect them to tell the truth about anything that's really going on and don't expect bored old farts to tune in to anyone else. Especially don't expect them to disbelieve what those surgically enhanced and silicone upholstered set decorations have coming out of their overly glossed mouths.

5. Many people wanted him to run for Prez but he was smart/honest enough to know he was not qualified.

6. Watching this clip makes me nostalgic and sad. I've been a news freak all of my life.

I know I heard Cronkite's sign off thousands of times.

I was in college during the Tet Offensive and I clearly remember watching the broadcast where Cronkite stepped out from his no nonsense, just the facts maam, delivery of the news and gave his prescient editorial on the Vietnam war. He called the war a stalemate, essentially a lost cause. He said the only way out was negotiation. I remember this because it was the only topic of conversation amongst those of us in the anti war movement for days. Johnson saw the hand writing on the wall and dropped out of the race for reelection soon thereafter. I felt that it was a validation of my decision to actively take part in the anti war movement.

In his closing clip, Cronkite said that while he was leaving, he was leaving behind a superb newsroom team to carry on. At that time it could be argued that CBS News was the top news reporting agency in the world. That CBS News is long gone and that is the sad part. In fact there are no current news agencies (possibly with the exception of BBC which in itself is not what it once was) with the depth and quality of CBS News in existence today.

AND THAT'S THE WAY IT IS, Wednesday March 9th, 2023.
