(212,676 posts)He spoke for over two hours in front of a sold out crowd using only a microphone, a stool and three glasses of water. He talked a little about his SNL days, but mostly about his days in the Senate - made jokes about Ted Cruz and did impressions - McConnell. He said that Dianne Feinstein asked him to tell a joke while their committee was waiting - and half of them didn't get it, LOL. He also did one of his maps of the states while he was talking and offered to sign it and donate it to a local Democratic charity. He got a well deserved standing ovation at the end!

"Woke" America and comedy: "I think it has a chilling effect on comedy. I know a lot of standups who won't go to colleges the comedians that I always- that I grew up admiring were people like Lenny Bruce and George Carlin and Dick Gregory. People who were- would use- would explore the edge of offending people.
And that- what people I think understood that then and that was a positive thing You know, all you need is a small percentage of people on campus to cause a stink or a ruckus. And so it doesn't- we're not talking about necessarily 95% of students. You know, and so it's just I think it's too bad "

(212,676 posts)But I know why he did, he's a member of Alanon, which he joined to support his wife, and not offending others is one of their principles. But I also wish he'd fought back, especially since many who jumped on the bandwagon calling for his resignation have now regretted it.
When he came to my area as part of his national tour, many in the sold out audience called for him to run again - but now he's back in New York and nobody's retiring from the Senate here anytime soon. I'd vote for him over just about anyone. *sigh*
As for his comedy, having started on network TV, it's pretty "G" rated - and it certainly was when I went to his performance in Albany.
