as their major. Then, that is what their degree says. They could negotiate their own contracts and attend any other classes they want to. Why hide behind calling them "amateurs"?

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to earn a degree in something employers might be interested in ?

required to take, but those classes are not paid for by the scholarship. However, they would be earning a negotiatedd salary for their paticipation in an extracurricular activity. If they want their room, board and classes paid for, they would have to swing that on their own like anyone else.

Sports that bring in zero revenue with costs to the colleges for staff, coaches, facilities and transportation etc.

Enough to cover tuition, books, fees, room and board and all other expenses?

People are free to get a job, learn a trade or take out loans to attend college like everyone else does.
