On Tuesday, the Republican Tennessee legislature voted to oust two or three members who had participated in a gun violence protest following a recent shooting at a Nashville elementary school. Harry explains why he believes this move is not only deeply antidemocratic, but also deeply unlawful.

1. That 9-0 SCOTUS ruling in 1965 reinstating Julian Bond to his legislative position is on point.

At a minimum, a legislator has the same First Amendment rights as an ordinary citizen.
