Al has such a rich and interesting history.

I didn’t realize he was one of a handful of the original writers on SNL. All of those people have become legends in one way or another: Gilda R, Dan A, Jane C (has dropped out of sight), John B, Chevy C; I’m sure Steve Martin was on board shortly after as well. I remember SNL being on the tv in my dorm recreation room in the late 70’s, with a bunch of us sitting around watching. It was the only show of its kind, at that time.

Thanks for posting the interview. It makes me respect Al even more! So warm, down to earth, funny and smart!!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
