(5,399 posts)i'll have to ask the ol' lady if she has read any of ms roberts' books.
i'm missing john oliver and the other comics but "solidarity." the writers for all those guys are great.
franken is not a top comedian, not a carlin or a dangerfield, but his timing is impeccable and he has a catchphrase , for a change. history will rate him with mark twain and will rodgers in the "contemporary humorist" category

And I remember when I was a kid, the local library had a summer reading program which encouraged kids to read - my mother took my brother and me every week to choose new books. And even though I was in elementary school, I was allowed to choose my own books. I remember liking biographies written for kids, like Abigail Adams and Dolley Madison. And I read the Little House books - while my brother chose his own books, too.
And I'm missing John Oliver, too, I posted his show every Sunday. I keep looking just in case, but he obviously has writers, too.

(205,074 posts)They were scheduled, then postponed, now canceled due to parental objections. It's really too bad since these small town kids would have really enjoyed it. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Back during the 2016 campaign, a woman I know invited a group of us up for a visit one Sunday. She lives in a lovely log cabin on a dirt road by a stream and I got hopelessly lost. But I was scared to stop and ask for directions since the number of TFG signs totally freaked me out - I had seen none at that point in my neck-of-the-woods here in Northeastern New York. So I guess it makes sense that they'd react that way to drag queen story hour for the kids.
And thanks, I did see Nance Greggs' excellent post. She completely nailed it - as usual!

(6,622 posts)1) Strong parallels with reproductive freedom: if you don't want to read a certain book, don't. If you don't believe in abortion, don't get one. But stop preventing everyone else from their own decision making.
2) Moms for Liberty is a wealthy autocratic front group. Good article from Tampa Bay Times https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/2022/07/09/just-who-is-behind-moms-for-liberty-column/
And from Media Matters

As an old broad, there are few things I despise more than women fucking over other women.

(205,074 posts)It is beyond my comprehension that these horrible individuals believe that they have the right to tell women who they will never know how to live their lives according to their own personal beliefs and rules - and I'm including Samuel Alito in that.
