(43,135 posts)This has to stop. A lot of people are involved in these operations, but someone is at the head too. Always involves TX and FL. You think Abbott and DeSantis talk about it? Ya think?

(36,029 posts)DeSantis is covered by FL law that allows his Division of Emergency Management and its contractor Vertol Systems Co., to "transfer" migrants if TX says it's okay. So, whatever law Newsom quotes doesn't apply to DeSantis. And California's AG will probably not prevail. New Mexico law might cover this transfer business, though it could have been a "commerce" transaction on private property, but there's no news about that.
I'm no lawyer; this is just a layman's opinion.

Right?

(158 posts)Not a lawyer, but if they can make an actual case for that (our wishes and dreams don't count), then a kidnapping that crosses state lines makes it a federal case and makes the FBI lead agency in the investigation.

(81,220 posts)Yeah, I wondered that, too. I'm not a lawyer either but it sure sounds like a case could be made for some sort of kidnapping charge.

(36,029 posts)What part of this only applies to the victims? This applies to DeSantis and his so-called lawful agents and actions from Florida.
Of course, the feds could see this as federally unlawful -- but they haven't acted yet because there doesn't seem, so far, to be a quoted federal law that affects governor-sanctioned actions. I'm just talking about a law against kidnapping. There might well be a federal law against "human trafficking," which is technically different.
Governors can get away with a shitton of stuff without federal accountability. This might be one of those times. Since DeSantis is a Harvard grad and lawyer, he might know something about both kidnapping and trafficking laws that we don't.
What we see as immoral might not be illegal.

(16,925 posts)Shouldn't we expect accountability regarding past judgments? He WAS married to Kimberly Guilfoyle, right?
OR, do we give him even MORE credit for NO LONGER being married to her?
(Well, there's some 'guy' the RWNJ's claim as 'theirs' who said something about 'casting the first stone....' )

(81,220 posts)I'll always wonder what on earth he saw in her. But I'm glad they're no longer together. Don't know who initiated that breakup but I think we can all be glad it happened.
