It was bad enough that he kept classified documents - belonging to the American people - in his shower! 
He may not admit it to himself (and definitely not to anyone else), but he knows, and he's scared silly!
But what we know - and we only know what little has been revealed - from Jack Smith's investigation is serious and convincing, so he finally may be seeing the writing on the wall. From what we saw tonight, the facade may be cracking.
He seemed really, really nervous and edgy to me in that interview. The anxiety was practically radiating off of him in waves.
On one level, I believe he still thinks he's "above the law" and invincible, but on another level, he knows better. He's in denial, so he won't admit it to himself, but the jig is up, and when he makes excuses for his actions, I feel he's trying to reassure himself as much as he's trying to convince the person he's talking to.
That's my theory anyway!

As the evidence of TFG's sedition and incompetence keeps piling up, it boggles the mind that any Americans could possibly support giving him another chance to lead the government that he attempted to overthrow, not to mention his dishonesty and frightening incompetence!
But you're right, there are actually people in this country who never accepted the outcome of the Civil War. I remember the first time I learned of the organization known as "The Daughters of the Confederacy" and my first thought was that they must be awfully old!

Guess all those decades of having his lawyers delay, delay, delay, and then settle means that Dumpy has no clue of what being on the stand is. Everything he has said WILL be used against him.
