DOJ delayed opening a criminal investigation into Trump for Jan 6. insurrection for more than a year

The Washington Post recently reported that the FBI and the Department of Justice delayed for more than a year opening a criminal investigation into Donald Trump and his associates for their attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. The reporting is disturbing, revealing that career prosecutors had recommended investigating Trump and his associate but FBI And DOJ leadership refused, working about the appearance of partisanship.

This video does a deep dive into the potential damage to the quest for accountability of the lengthy delay in opening a criminal probe into Trump and his criminal associates. Additionally, this video discusses how declining to open a criminal investigation when there was "adequate predications" - enough evidence - to open a probe for fear of it appearing political is indeed a political act itself, and should NOT be a consideration. Rather, the decision to open a criminal investigation should be based ONLY on the facts and the law, not concerns of how it will be perceived or criticized by others.

This video also discusses the silver lining of Donald Trump thinking his best shot at avoiding accountability, and avoiding prison, was to announce he was again running for president. The reality is this decision by Trump is what prompted Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint Jack Smith as special counsel, which accelerated the pace and scope of the criminal probe into Trump and company. - Glenn Kirschner - 06/21/2023.

He's hardly partisan - and extremely good at his job (investigating criminals!).

We had an active violent coup attempt Jan 6th, 2021.

It took 15 months!!! before the FBI felt like it needed to look into it!

I am so fed up by this. We all kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Oh, it will come soon.
NOT. Our own government of investigators did nothing for 15 months! Then how much was done after that? How much is being done now?

You know the repukes talk about a deep state, well, I guess it is filled with RWers.

How in the world will this get cleaned up???

His experience is prosecuting war criminals - and we know we're dealing with an unrepentant criminal in TFG.

The Mueller report. What? 2 years down the drain.
We have been waiting for this trump nightmare to end, year after year.

I no longer have faith it will. It has taken too long and too many Americans believe the lies. He has enablers within the government at all levels. The judge won't even give him a sentence, it will be parole. I have lost faith. I am glad some will be able to hold that torch, Rhiannon.

I may trust Jack Smith, but I sure don't trust the Republicans. When they were called "crazies" today, that completely summed it up. These guys have no idea how to govern - or what democracy demands of them. For some insane reason, they have hung their respective hats on a guy who has clearly demonstrated he's a criminal and wants to turn this country into an autocracy with him in charge! And, has been shown over and over, he'd turn on any of them in a heartbeat. I have often wondered what history will make of this unbelievable period in our otherwise proud history - if we have one.

Do they listen to the news? Did they listen to the news?

Is it likely that we who pay attention to the news know more then they do?

At least that seems to be the FBI and DOJ's thinking.
