(10,252 posts)The pastor could have planned ahead and provided sheet music for every band member, AND had the band practice it before the service. The fault is his for not planning ahead.

(8,177 posts)It is exceedingly difficult to sight read music on a guitar unless you are classically trained. Most guitar players play by ear.
The pastor doesn't know their skills. He should have let them know in advance so they could work it out. It would be hard to improvise the star-spangled banner on the spot.
God should have stepped in to help.

(10,252 posts)Paster could have asked, "How many can read sheet music?"

(19,755 posts)I'm not casting stones at them, I don't know how to play that song either. But I do know not to suddenly ask unprepared people to play it.

(15,007 posts)Never ask a Praise and Worship band to play anything with more than 3 chords.
I once saw a 32 piece pick up orchestra fake the national anthem. It was pretty darned good!

(26,467 posts)So was the pastor's shirt. He disrespected the flag by wearing it. So do all the MAGAs who wear it, and not just because they are MAGAs. Flag etiquette says not to make clothing out if it.
One time, when the 4th fell on a Sunday, I attended a service in which the pastor used hot dog buns for the communion bread.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
