(10,422 posts)He is a clear and present danger to America. And the rest of the world. How did it ever come to this? I blame the lack of education, that so many Americans lack a basic understanding of our government and history. I hope the US survives long enough to rectify the situation. All the immigrants have to pass a citizenship test that the vast majority of natural borne Americans would fail.

(207,846 posts)When I was in public high school, 10th grade was a year of World History and 11th grade was American History. In Mary Trump's book she said that there's no national curriculum for teaching history. I'm in New York. I've often wondered what history will make of this bizarre and perilous time in our history - if they teach it al all.

Getting back to the thread, I agree with captainqueeq that many native-born Americans have a woeful lack of knowledge of civics, world geography and U.S. history. Our country has become an embarrassment in the last few decades academically and it is a shame. And I don't blame teachers, I blame the parents.

(207,846 posts)And of all the Regents Exams I took, World History was my second highest grade. And there was certainly a lot about WWI and WWII, but then I knew that the nazis were really bad at a much younger age, I figured that everybody knew that. And in 9th grade, the teacher made sure that we knew who our senators were and we learned about the Civil Rights Movement and how George Wallace had managed to stay in office even though he couldn't succeed himself. Do they teach these important parts of our history anymore?

(29 posts)I was a social studies teacher in 2 Catholic School systems in Illinois for 30 years. Not only did we teach American history in 7th and 8th grade, but the students had to pass a federal and state constitution test for graduation. Of course, each constitution had to be read and studied. Thank God for a private school system, one that has more control over its curriculum, and the Great State of Illinois!

(4,331 posts)We all had courses in World history and American history. I distinctly remember taking that federal/state constitution test. My public school was very careful to see that we learned all this history.

(2,809 posts)Two separate, obviously RW talk stations playing the "looky what those awful democrats are doing to our holy messiah" immediately followed by the false equivalency "they'll have to lock up Biden too". Nauseating.
