I remember during the Bush Jr. presidency, China was not allowing the American public to complain about Chinese dog food killing our dogs, or actually, complain about much of anything. I wish I knew how to search DU for those old posts with accompanying research on how China was calling our shots.
Life is so much better under a Democratic president who is as strong and focused and experienced as Biden.

(22,212 posts)The old math was ultra low Chinese labor costs more than offset ocean freight. That's not necessarily the case anymore. Production is going to lower cost countries or coming home as Chinese manufacturing makes less and less economic sense. Chinese wages will continue to rise from the aftermath of the 1 child policy. Hard to believe, but China Inc. is beginning to see a shortage of workers.

(127,346 posts)and the government is urging people with college degrees to return back to rural areas to work in agriculture. The retirement age for men is 60 and for women it is 50-55. With that many able-bodied individuals who are unemployed, it would be a stretch to say that China has a shortage of workers. If there is a shortage of workers it would be in specific niche trades.
