New information is coming to light in a central charge facing the former president. Federal prosecutors point to seven states where they allege Trump plotted to subvert the results with false slates of electors poised to cast electoral votes. The indictment says Trump’s goal was to cast doubt and disrupt the final vote certification on Jan 6. Lisa Desjardins discussed more with Amy Gardner. - Aired on 08/09/2023.

1. The electoral college has no useful purpose in our democracy

It only is used by the bad guys to unlevel the playing field. Proving my point, any effort to rid our system of the EC will result in howls of protest by the bad guys.

Always a pleasure to listen to a cool, calm, collected discussion between learned rational professionals on my favorite, PBS. Proving that point, the bad guys do all they can to rid the airwaves of the good guys embodied in PBS/NPR.

2. I know that, it's the Electoral College that put us in the fix we're dealing with now.

It makes no sense whatever in this day and age except to give unwarranted influence on elections to less populated areas so that the voice of the people is stifled. We really need to go with the popular vote as they do in the rest of the world - and no other country understands why it's still in use here.

And I'm a big fan of PBS, too. I especially like their documentaries.

3. EC designed by slave owners to protect the "rights" of slave owners

No wonder MAGA loves it.

And NPRs attempts at hokey humor are so so bad they are so so good. I always have WWNO NPR out of New Orleans on when I’m walking in the basement when inclement weather keeps me inside.

4. If that's the case, it outlived its "purpose" 158 years ago...

And we're lucky here in the Northeast, we have access to two PBS stations, both the Capital Region and nearby Vermont. And when I was in high school, I participated in a local show for teens on local PBS Channel 17.
