'Naive' Secret Service had blind spot for Oath Keepers ahead of Jan. 6: report - Alex Wagner - MSNBC

Emails shared in a new report from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington show members of the Secret Service feeling a cozy kinship with the Oath Keepers ahead of January 6, completely oblivious to the group's real intentions that day.

Carol Leonnig, investigative reporter for The Washington Post, talks with Alex Wagner about the naivety of the Secret Service in the context of the broader intelligence failures on January 6. - Aired on 08/23/2023.

That seems to be the consensus here, but didn't we know that when the texts were deleted? Rhiannon12866 Aug 2023 #12

If any of them were "loyal" to TFG, they might have known they were there at his invitation.

"Carrying water" is probably a better description than "mistake" when it comes to any such journos' babblings.

As are many cops. They see many people as “bad”. Maybe comes with the territory.

until they shot a guy at a demo to remove a statue.

They don't call them friendlies any more. They call them by their real name: assholes.

Sorry Alex, but to believe the Secret Service was "naive" you'd have to be, well, naive.

She let Carol Leonnig, once again, pedal the cover story for SS's misdeeds and is probably doing so to retain access for more stories. I think the naive one is Ms. Leonnig if she buys that line from SS or if she thinks we will if she tells it to us.

I think she isn't being honest here and I question many of her explanations about SS goings on.

... when they deleted all their texts on, before, and after 1/6/21? And who gave that order to do so?
Did any of them have burner phones? And what about the S.S. agents who showed up to give Mike
Pence a ride from the U.S. Capitol during the 1/6/21 attempted coup?

Think. Again.

...standard of common sense to get that job?

I don't buy it. They weren't blind, they were complicit.

But at this point, my big concern is that this media report has been allowed to make it to the public and is being taken seriously (whether it's cover for the secret service or delusion of the reporter).

We need to stick with reality, people. Reality.
