"An Argument at the Kids' Table": John Nichols on First GOP Debate Held Without Trump
Highlights from the first Republican presidential debate of the 2023 race and analysis from John Nichols, _The Nation_'s national affairs correspondent. The debate felt like "an argument at the kids' table on Thanksgiving rather than a classic political debate," says Nichols, who adds that candidates were attempting to become Trump's vice president or project themselves as leaders in a post-Trump Republican Party.
