Milley defends democracy, swipes at Trump in farewell address

Army Gen. Mark Milley delivered a full-throated defense of democracy and not-so-subtle swipes at former President Donald Trump during a packed ceremony as he closed out his four, often tumultuous years as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. (Sept. 29)

“Good afternoon, Joe. I want to say something to all the Trump supporter out there. If you saw Trump mock that disabled man, and you still voted for him, then you are a bad person. If you heard Trump encourage that traitorous mob to attack the Capital Building, threaten the VP’s life, and to stop the election process, and you still support him today, then you are a traitor.

To all the military and vets, I am a veteran too, I was in the army 1967 to 1969, If you took the oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, and you support Trump now, then you are a traitor. I don’t care anything about the quality of your service, if you took that oath and support Trump now, you are a traitor. Benedict Arnold was a revolution war hero until he turned traitor.”

At that point the radio host said “thank you for your call, Spike.” And cut me off before I could say,” I want all you Trump supporters to put out your Trump yard signs because the authorities are going to want to know where all you traitors live. And I hope I live to see the day that you are brought to justice and either stood up against a wall or at the edge of an open trench.”
