The right-wing's position on guns back then was similar to what it is today. This was making fun of that.

Now you have politicians who sound like him talking about it on Sunday shows. Exhibit A Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX). Too bad Archie wasn't around today he might be a tea party rep.

The first time I saw that when I was about 17 or 18 I nearly pissed my pants laughing.

got the biggest laugh. Ok, it may have been a laugh track or a signal for the audience members to laugh. But it wasn't meant for the audience members to say, "Hmm... what a great idea!"
