(2,252 posts)1. Rachel's question: "If you're President Obama, why would continue to negotiate with John Boehner?...
...Why would you keep talking to him?"
Uh, maybe because you're bored and don't have anything else to do. Because you like to see grown men cry. Because he's the best present Santa ever gave you, and you won't stop playing with him till he's really broken. Because Merlot breath doesn't really bother you. Lots of good reasons.
Happy Holidays, JB. We won't miss you if you don't come back.
Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law
Against you comin' around
You should be made
To wear earphones.
Because you know something is happening
And you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Boehner?

John Boehner is really bad at his job.

(1,648 posts)3. Perhaps we are about to fly off the fiscal cliff, why?
My feeling is that Grover Norquist is still alive, meaning that the Grover Pledge is stronger than the pledge to defend our Constitution...these RWers are beholding to those with their purse strings. Have a nice "Red State" Chistmas...and hold on to your ass.

(Channeling the late Herb Caen)

Whether Boehner keeps his post as Speaker or not may now be dependent on Wall Street gamblers. If they are betting that Boehner will lose the Speaker's chair, then he's gone. If they're betting he'll keep it, he'll stay.
Watch the derivatives market.

I know that's a very cynical way of looking at it, but my view of Wall Street, Washington in general and the GOP House caucus in particular is pretty jaded these days.
Many people say (some people say?) that Wall Street has become a casino. That's unfair to casinos. If a Las Vegas casino were run the way Wall Street is, the Nevada Gaming Commission would shut it down. The commissioners take a dim view of the house having as much influence over the outcome of the game as Wall Street bankers have.

Have you ever noticed how Eric Cantor always walks three steps behind Boehner? That's not a sign of subservience. That's because Cantor is waiting for an opportunity to get closer, pull out a Bowie knife and stick it in Boehner's back.

The world is supposed to end today. For Boehner, perhaps it has.
