they have millions of dollars to spend to control the message and we have shit..
Who is going to hire some big buses and pay some people to go around training activists to do this?
Besides they can keep us so busy defending ourselves (and dealing with the trolls they create) that we don't have time to actively work against them.
Our problem is that they can buy what they want...politicians, and all...and can control the message....and they do.

They have a problem with their books and movies because they are nonsense, not because of some liberal conspiracy.

I've got a radical idea for these radical modern patriots. If they want to win people over, come up with solutions that actually fix problems and make people's lives better.

But they can't come up with good ideas for addressing economic and social problems. It's not their objective to actually help people (even if that help is to show how to grip bootstraps better). So instead, they spend millions of dollars on misinformation and muddying the waters.

This is truly a shameful activity this young man was involved in. Similar to something Thomm Hartman reported about conservative "think" tanks literally rewriting Wikipedia.

Wasn't one of the names for the devil "Deceiver"?

shoved at us since the election of St. Ronnie is no longer working. People are beginning to understand that the "trickle down" supply side economics really is voodoo economics and only works for the rich. Fox news is losing ratings and they are nervous. Obama's no FDR, but he's too close for comfort for the billionaires running the show. The only reason they still have the House is because of fraud and deceit and they know it. It's hard to smear liberals when they're, you know, patriotic Americans like veterans and old ladies like me, and even some wealthy capitalists.
I think this is when the extremists are most dangerous. A dying facist fights even harder, and they sure do have the weapons for it.

They do buy media, own fox-lies, buy messageboards, I think they bought Digg not to long ago, they slap-suit people to shut them up, remove comment sections from the media they buy. They buy their own books using campaign money to make a "Pretend-best seller", write their own science 'reports' and spam emails full of lies.

This costs them billions to support paid propaganda campaigns.

I like the way the internet is the big equaliser and a lot of 'we the people' work free.

Good thing they can't exterminate their 'political enemy or they would.

Just like the Founding Fathers!

I'll bet if Jefferson could have gone to Amazon.com and given five stars to Thomas Paine's "The Crisis," he would have done exactly that...WITHOUT EVEN READING IT!

Who needs reason? Who needs to resort to the difficult work of fashioning persuasive, logically valid arguments to support a political position; and in this fast-paced modern world, who has the time?! Thank God we can just click our way to unreasoned popular consensus!

Now what we really need is a good, strong, charismatic demagogue to do all our thinkin' for us....

It's free market with little regulation. Little regulation means massive misuse and manipulation of the market to suit your needs. I remember playing on the Star Trek Wallstreet games...by developing friendship with guys who controlled the market I was able to extinct doom. It teaches you how the real world works.

Just so you believe me...I found a stray article on the premise of the game: http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2006/03/08/g4-makes-star-trek-interactive/

I've always wondered why youtube and amazon seem to be crawling with Teahadists. Some of the commentary on youtube makes Sara Palin look like an accomplished public speaker.

After seeing this video, it makes a lot more sense. It also makes me glad for all the time I've engaged them over the years. It seems like such a waste of time arguing with them, and the truth is, it is, because they're never going to change their minds because all they are paid whores. But it's important not to let them just take over social media.

or with talking points that do not address the content of the book/ film. In fact, on websites that give you the option of rating comments as helpful or not helpful, I try to take time to give positive ratings to thoughtful comments. This guy is wasting his time with informed consumers.

If I'm truly interested in a book or movie I'm going to do more than pay attention to the average "stars" rating. I'm going to read both good and bad reviews. So they're not going to dissuade consumers who want to be informed. However, I just wonder how many people out there do just pay attention to the average ratings only.

39. Two ironies: neither truly American, nor a majority
Sat Sep 20, 2014, 02:12 PM
Sep 2014

The first irony is that what American Majority stands for is fundamentally anti-American in that it subverts the first requirement of democracy: an informed citizenry. Not a propagandized citizenry, not a bought and paid for citizenry, but a thoughtfully engaged citizenry.

The second irony is, these guys in the American Majority are in the minority. Polls show most Americans are actually liberal.

Certainly a majority of Americans would deplore these tactics, and would support fair and honest debate over this kind of intellectual dishonesty which seeks to gain influence through trickery and cheating the system. These are people who know their message can't stand on its merits, so they morally degrade themselves to seek power through duplicity.

One is tempted to respond in kind, but we don't have this mentality and shouldn't learn it. We should however compete through greater cooperation and relentlessly promoting truth. In the long run, truth will win out. Well, usually.
