Man I love Greek food but nobody else in my family does so I never get to pick that when we go out.

Is your wife ok when you pull out your lucky spoon from your BDU pocket as superstitious. I myself usually just lick mine off and dig in. My god dear that spoon is 34 years old, and I look at my wife and go no you can’t use it.

The Army had moved on to MRE's by the time I was in, but I kept my Dad's old P-38 as a memento during my time in, and for years after. Lost track of it about ten years ago.

Comes with tzaiziki sauce, olives, green beans, and rice pilaf.

And enough garlic to knock someone over from ten feet away.

Mrs. Aristus is going to hate me tonight...

My sister took me to some tiny little bistro in Los Angeles and we drank a lovely red wine and ate pickled ox tongue served with kalamata olives, fresh mozzarella and crunchy bread with a spicy spread of feta cheese and roasted red peppers.

No Greek food within a day's drive now, so I learned to make my own killer Htipiti spread.

It's a white wine, aged in pine casks. Not for the timid. Somehow it tastes great to me, when good friends and a good Greek restaurant are involved.....

I've also heard (as you suggested) that it's an acquired taste. I've acquired a lot of tastes in my time; I'm curious to acquire another.

I acquired the taste pretty quickly. I like it. Nice and dry. Very flavorful. I don't know why I was expecting something thick and syrupy. But this is excellent; like a good Chardonnay.

The pine taste is overwhelming.

On the plus side, the fourth and fifth glasses are not bad.

Repeated doses, particularly in the company of good friends and food, make it very tolerable. Works for me, anyway.

But don't cry for me Winnemucca.

We have one of THE best Greek restaurants in Europe exactly a 3 minute walk from our front door. To accommodate my dietary needs (can't do red meat), they even keep a supply of turkey filet around to make souvlaki in case I (or anyone else) can't or won't order it made with pork. And two of their appetizers, grilled octopus in marinated lemon-garlic oil and sautéed mushrooms in a red wine-cream sauce (almost mushrooms Stroganoff) are worth the trip from ANYWHERE.

Johnny makes an incredible chicken saganaki. Perfectly cooked chicken stuffed with spinach, cheese, and enough garlic to mow down the vanguard of an invading army.
