His stage persona is that of a bumbling goof, but he's sharper than a box of razors. When CBS was trying to knuckle the Smothers Brothers over the political content of their show, Tommy went to a meeting with the network brass. The suits thought they were going to steamroll Tommy, thinking he was the guy they saw on the show. Wrong.
