Flipside: What Movie was Widely Panned or Ignored that YOU Really Liked?

I have a few:

Sunshine (sci-fi)
Hardware (sci-fi)
84 Charlie Mopic (war drama)
The Woodsman (drama)
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (horror-crime and way better than the original)

I may post more if/as they occur to me.

When I saw it people were walking out of the theater but we were hysterical. My friend and I were laughing so hard some others in the audience were giving us dirty looks. Guess we were in a silly mood, although I still enjoy that movie.

It was a flop but it was Brian de Palma and it is now looked back on fondly

Four stories are linked by a Chinese proverb and overlapping characters. A usually unadventurous man (Forest Whitaker) loses big on a horse race and robs a bank to pay off a gangster (Andy Garcia). The gangster's nephew goes on the town with a hit man (Brendan Fraser) who can see into the future. The hit man falls for a pop star (Sarah Michelle Gellar) whose contract is owned by the gangster. The pop star has a rare blood type sought by a doctor (Kevin Bacon) trying to save the love of his life.

One review I read about it noted all the carping about the incredibly huge, wasteful budget (cost about triple what it should have in those days) for the bit of fluff that was Ishtar. But really, whose money was it? As I recall, the reviewer said, "Does Ishtar have $50 million worth of laughs? No, but what do you care?"

...all very underrated, in my opinion. Especially The Postman, one of the most beautiful films ever made, and its message is more relevant today than ever...

Still loved the part where Antonio Banderas' character learned to speak Norsemen. Well done.

Never got the audience it deserved, but it has its cult of those "in the know". Just a wonderfully wild, weird movie. And John Lithgow.

BTW, it turns out this is a real person.
