I took my troubles down to Madame Ruth
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Selling little bottles of...Love Potion Number Nine
I told her that I was a flop with chicks
I've been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is...Love Potion Number Nine"
She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"
It smelled like turpentine, It looked like Indian ink
I held my nose, I closed my eyes,..I took a drink
I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissing everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
He broke my little bottle of....Love Potion Number Nine
Love Potion Number Ni-yi-yi-yi-ine.

(28,224 posts)Once had a supervisor at work named Jenny. When I went to her desk with a problem, I got her attention with "Jenny, Jenny!" I don't think she ever caught on to what I was referring to. (if she had, she probably would've knocked me into the next county--she was a female bodybuilder in her off-hours!)

Oh, you mean with digits? Or named digits? Maybe the Dan's "Hey Nineteen".
And a nod to "Pioneers over C" by Van der Graaf Generator.... C representing the number for the speed of light in a vacuum, or 299,792,458 meters per second.

(322 posts)I'm gonna give you thirty days to get back home
I done call up to the gypsy woman on the telephone
She gonna send out a world wide hoodoo
That'll be the very thing that'll suit you
I'm gonna see that you be back home in thirty days
Oh thirty days (thirty days!)
Oh thirty days (thirty days!)
Baby, I'mma see that you be back home in thirty days
Well, she's gonna send out a world wide hoodoo
That'll be the very thing that'll suit ya
I'm gonna see that you be back home in thirty days
I done talked to the judge in private early this morning
And he took me to the sheriff's office to sign a warrant
They gon' put a false charge again' ya (against ya)
That'll be the very thing that'll send ya
I'm gonna see that you be back home in thirty days
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
I'm gonna see that you be back home in thirty days
Yeah, we're gonna put a false charge again' ya
That'll be the very thing that'll send ya
I'm gonna see that you be back home in thirty days
If I don't get no satisfaction from the judge
I'm gonna take it to the FBI and voice my grudge
If they don't give me no consolation
I'm gonna take it to the United Nations
I'm gonna see that you be back home in thirty days
Oh thirty days! (thirty days)
Oh thirty days! (thirty days)
Baby, I'mma see that you be back home in thirty days
Well if you don't give me no consolation
I'm gonna take it to the United Nations
I'm gonna see that you be back home in thirty days!

(10,172 posts)And this song rocks! She's quite the progressive too. I've heard her on interviews and read some of her tweets and re-tweets. I met her for like five seconds (many years ago) when she was on tour and came through my hometown of Corpus Christi TX. I was the Reservations Manager at the nicest hotel in town and everyone I worked with knew what a fan I was. I told them to let me know when she was checking in so I could welcome her. She was very sweet...

I cant remember anything
Cant tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel the scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
Im waking up, I cannot see
That theres not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, wake me
Back in the womb its much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But cant look forward to reveal
Look to the time when Ill live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, wake me
Now the world is gone, Im just one
Oh God, help me Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please, God, help me
Darkness
Imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell
Landmine
Has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

My four-speed, dual quad, Positraction 409
The first album I ever bought was the Beach Boys' 1st album, (I think) which included "409"
(Nothing at all to do with the Beach Boys' song)
Years later,I briefly owned a '55 Chevy with a 409 engine in it.
I sold it to a serious racer who said he was going to take out the engine (which needed work) fiberglass the front end, and drop a brand new 327 into it and race it
(It also had a Muncie Four-Speed)

Zager and Evans
In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you
In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube
In the year 7510
If God's a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the judgment day
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down, and start again
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing
Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday
In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find

(53,174 posts)The First Impression is in two parts because records are only so long; they had to split the 13-minute 1st Impression across both sides of the album.
First Impression, Part 1:
First Impression, Part 2 (This is the one that starts 'Welcome all my friends to the show that never ends'):
Second Impression:
Third Impression:
And we must not forget the very fun "Benny the Bouncer" that comes immediately before Karn Evil 9 on this album.

(22,976 posts)One of the best (and most underrated rock songs). It starts off at a gallop and ends with a bang.
When I was a boy I thought about times
I'd be a man
I'd sit inside a bottle and pretend that I was in a can
In my lonely room I'd sit my mind in an ice cream cone
You can throw me if you want to 'cause I'm a bone and I go
Oop-ip-ip oop-ip-ip yeah
If I don't start cryin' it's because that I have got no eyes
My father's in the fireplace and my dog lies hypnotized
Through a crack of light I was unable to find my way
Trapped inside a night but I'm a day and I go
Oop-ip-ip oop-ip-ip, yeah
