(18,359 posts)He was the rocker who visited our dad over the summers. I was an ignorant child and had problems coping with not being the only child. Since he was a rocker, I was not. That met that I was not interested in going to rock concerts which my dad did with my brother. Alice Cooper Nightmare tour, Kiss, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd Animals tour, and others I don't remember.
Some regret on my part on missing those concerts, but as I got older I am glad my dad had that time with my brother. It was hard for him not growing up with his dad. I am not close to my brother, but I respect him a great deal and admire what he has accomplished in his life. I recently gave all my albums (including my dad's which I got on his death) to my nephew (his son).

"Big Girls Don't Cry" - The Four Seasons
I loved The Beach Boys......The Four Seasons..not so much.
.but I bought their album at the same time I bought The Beach Boys album because it was in stereo, and I wanted to try out my new (portable) stereo.
I can't remember the next three albums I bought.
(Eventually, I had accumulated nearly 100 albums)

(426 posts)....So albums were always around. But I'm pretty sure my first 5 were:
1. Meet The Beatles
2. Soupy Sales
3. Beach Boys--Surfin' (it was practically a right-of-passage growing up in Southern California in the 1960's)
4. Ricky Nelson (inherited from my older sister)
5. Cal Tjader--Soul Sauce. I had very eclectic taste in music, still do.
6. Glenn Miller---Just kidding!
I still have all of those, and about 500 more. I think each one cost about $2-$2.50 back then. To this day I much prefer vinyl over CD's. Much better sound quality.
rogerballard
(4,017 posts)I got the best of all decades, including mine (80's). Soupy Sales was an absolute favorite of mine! Vinyl rules. I remember Mom yelling to the oldest sister to turn down the music upstairs in her bedroom as she sang and danced to The Beatles. 6 kids with all sorts of musical interest, I got lucky.

(1,265 posts)Im the youngest of 6. 1948-1964 (me, the baby!). We had so much music in the house. Think first thing I bought was Cheap Trick Live from Budakon. And a UK release of some Beach Boys collection. Oldest brother came home with everything but the Stones. Dont know why. So I bought Sticky Fingers and never looked back.
I was a bad kid.

(12,132 posts)I could hide a couple 45s but big records were tougher. Almost certainly my first five actual purchases were Led Zeppelin records.

(46,179 posts)I grew up in the era of radio, and spent a lot of time listening. Many years listening to "93 KHJ" in LA.
My first albums were my mom's. I don't remember when I actually began buying my own, although I remember being given an Alice Cooper Album (Billion Dollar Babies) for my birthday in 1974. I think by the time I started buying my own, it was 8-tracks, not albums.
The albums in my mom's collection included CSNY, Dylan, Baez, Elton John, Jethro Steele, Stevie Wonder, John Denver, and more. I can almost visualize one I probably bought, since I don't think my mom did: Suzie Quatro. I also remember Hank Williams, Janice Joplin, the Beatles, and the Stones.
