I Have to Repair My Washing Machine - Yaay!

Lucky me!

Water fills just fine and doesn't leak. The spin cycle goes with no problem. It just won't agitate. It hums very loudly instead.

So, according to the sites I googled, it needs a V-Style drive belt and somebody to change it. The sites also said that it has to be changed every 2 - 3 years, depending on how much washing you do. My washer is about 9 years old, so I got away with it for longer than most.

I'm not scared. I installed my dishwasher and put in new faucets (hubby is claustrophobic and his shoulders are too big to fit under the sink). I've been putting together furniture since before Ikea was a thing. Coworkers check with me before calling IT to fix a printer jam. So I can do this.

Has anyone else done this kind of thing? Any horror stories, tips. or things to watch out for?

It moved with us to the house we bought in 1989 and sold with that house in 2016. We raised 3 daughter and washed many loads and it never required servicing. I dropped a bottle of detergent on the selector knob and broke it. When i picked up the replacement at Sears Parts the new knob was all metal instead of plastic.

I guess they do 't build the like that anymore.

It doesn't look hard at all. I wasn't completely clear on the back bolts, but I will look at a couple other videos and understand what he was talking about when I'm actually doing it.

so that the belt can be more easily 'slipped off' the pulley (?)

Yes, looking at more videos would help

My parents had the same Kenmore washer for over 30 years. Now, due to planned obsolescence, the life expectancy is 7 years.

One of the pure joys of my adulthood was moving into my own condo with its own little laundry area. I didn't have to scrounge quarters anymore for the apartment machines.
