The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHello
I'm going to apologise it advance. Having read many posts and replies, i know i can respect and get along with just about everyone here even though it's apparent we will often disagree.
It's not who you voted for, it's being able to respect yourself the day after.

(7,939 posts)Ha! Just joking. Welcome to speaking up. Always good to engage with this tribe of Excellent Humans.
It's a dangerous time, uncertain and weird, so all the more important that you express yourself.
Nowwwwww...about this disagreement we're going to have. I just want to get that out of the way.
I blubbered all the way through Darkest Hour, sitting next to my college student daughter. I did warn her.
And that's about all you need to know about me.

(27,490 posts)There is no good reasoning for anyone who voted for and gave us this racist misogynist, sexual abuser, conman, fraud, Russian puppet and possible traitor as President of US.
There was no reason for anyone to vote for 3rd party candidates and call yourself a progressive liberal.
Any argument(s) to the contrary would be against DU's Terms of Service and could result in a post being removed and possible expulsion from DU.
Do not post support for Republicans or independent/third-party "spoiler" candidates. Do not state that you are not going to vote, or that you will write-in a candidate that is not on the ballot, or that you intend to vote for any candidate other than the official Democratic nominee in any general election where a Democrat is on the ballot. Do not post anything that smears Democrats generally, or that is intended to dissuade people from supporting the Democratic Party or its candidates. Don't argue there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Why we have this rule: Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government, and as such we expect our members to support and vote for Democrats at election time. Rare exceptions are granted at the sole discretion of the DU Administrators. (Current exceptions: None.)

We are certainly open to many points of view and lively discussion. But not ones supporting anti-Democratic values and positions or non-Democratic public figures.

If you were trying to help me avoid violating the rules , i"m cool with that. Please allow me to clarify what was stated.
Of those who voted for Trump and Bernie or a 3rd party..
I'm certain many would like the opportunity to rewind and redirect their vote .
If that sounds like support for republicans or 3rd parties, by all means delete my post or allow me to edit it.
Please be careful in the way you address the intent of others and be certain of their intent before hand. It's going to be challenging enough to acclimate to the community without having to overcome an undeserved label.
I am certain your intention was to be helpful
So thank you for welcoming me to the community

(27,490 posts)Your OP clearly said; "It's not who you voted for, it's being able to respect yourself the day after."
How can I take that other than how you stated it. Whether you were referencing your own personal actions, or others, I have no idea. However, as far as the sentiment you expressed; "It's not who you voted for" is contrary to the the underlining principles of this forum. It does matter how someone votes. Whether someone respects themselves after voting is a personal issue. I suppose they can find a means to redeem themselve and assuage their own personal demons, but that's entirely up to them.
I really don't need to be schooled on how to interpret the intent of others or be told to be careful. If your intent was unclear, that's your responsibility to clarify. I was attempting to be helpful and will not make that mistake again.

(53 posts)Offense you felt. None was directed at you personally. Unfortunately, I can not call upon others to hold my hand through every post. I can only do my best to accurately articulate my thoughts. But please feel free to continue offering advice when feel it is warranted. I will respectfully listen to what you have to say.
I hope my clarification of a short statement in my post was adequate. Please ask me what I meant next time. I would rather explain myself than argue over it unnecessarily. Hope, you agree. Because i'm sure it would have been a better experience had it been a different topic
2018 is hear and I am optimistic. See you in the other threads.
Just spellchecked, re-read and crossed my fingers -
Ok I had to uncross 1 set of fingers so I could push post

(53,410 posts)If you can respect yourself after voting for Trump then you have the self respect of an Idiocrat.
This comment is in general, not meant to be personal.
