I was encouraged to introduce myself here.
I'm Mariesa. I'm a former/retired broadcaster living in upstate New York.
Aside from politics, I enjoy good music, good food, and laughter.

(206,157 posts)I mainly grew up in Saratoga. We do have several DUers here who are from the area. Thanks to "redistricting" I'm now in NY-21, which we're determined to return to blue in November. I'm always pleased to welcome another upstater to DU!

(59 posts)I live in the Niskayuna area now.
I'm thrilled that there are other upstaters here.
Woot!
And yes, we are going to turn NY-21, blue. And 19, too!
I'm in the 20th. Tonko town. We're a safe blue.

(206,157 posts)But also still in the Albany area and farther north, too. I was in NY-20 which finally elected a Democrat (Kirsten Gillibrand) in 2006. When she was appointed as senator in 2009, I worked on both of Scott Murphy's campaigns - he was terrific, but he won the first and lost the second to Chris Gibson. *sigh* And though I didn't go anywhere, I now find myself in NY-21 represented by Paul Ryan acolyte Elise Stefanik. She's enormously unpopular here, has taken to only publicizing her schedule after-the-fact to avoid protesters wherever she goes, so I'm hopeful about November - if only we can settle on a single candidate, there are so many who have stepped up!

(17,149 posts)The Erie Canal runs right through the center of town. It was the full bloom of late spring, early summer. Green trees, fragrant air, fishing, and friends I haven't seen in decades. Had white hots and Genny tall boys at the Firemen's Carnival. Sure was nice to be home. I miss it every day, but in the dead of winter, it's easier to miss it from a distance.
