About Churchill's years in the wilderness between the wars.

Vanessa Redgrave as Clementine.

Pretty damned good BBC/HBO production.

7. Then there's the Lady Astor stories. (They despised each other.)

These are usually set in some muckity muck social function.

=======
Lady Astor: Sir Winston, you are drunk. You are very drunk.

Sir Winston: You, madame, are ugly. And I will be sober in the morning.

=======
Lady Astor: Sir Winston, if I were Clementine I would put poison in your brandy.

Sir Winston: If you were Clementine, I would drink it.

=======
There are undoubtedly more of these, along the same order of battle.

...along with a lot of 1950-era MGM soap opera. But still, well-done, though Bob Mitchum is miscast as Pug Henry. *The Eagle Has Landed* is about a Nazi attempt to kidnap Churchill, and is one of the most entertaining films you'll ever see. There have been a number of TV movies about him, including ones with Richard Burton and Bob Hoskins. There have been a number of British films about him, though they generally didn't get much play here...

8. Oopsie! Do you mean "The Gathering Storm"??? Updated.

That was a BBC/HBO film with Albert Finney and Vanessa Redgrave as Winston and Clementine. See my post above, with a key scene.

My oopsie here. Into the Storm was apparently the sequel to The Gathering Storm, made seven years later with a different cast. I'll have to grab that one. I'm a bit of a Churchill fan and I've never heard of it.

Thank you for suggesting it.

That tube (subway) scene was not just ahistorical, it was absolutely ridiculous. Loved the film. Hated that scene.
