When it comes to dating, I'm Oh-for-about-a-gazillion. I often ask, what do women want? Frequent response is, they want a man with a sense of humor--that's false, and I can prove it! I have a GREAT sense of humor. I can make ANY woman laugh--guaranteed--in TWO seconds! It's easy: I ask her out--she LAUGHS!

Of course, it has been about 44 years since I even tried the dating game.

I just got lucky. A chance encounter, a coincidental introduction, and suddenly I had found my partner for life, just when I thought I was destined to strike out forever.

But that magic stroke of luck can and does happen. I'm living proof. Don't give up.

10. Just a chance encounter

July 25, 1974 in Berlin.

I was talking to a nice girl from Münster, and she told me she was leaving for China the next day. I thought "oh, well." Then she said, "but you should meet my girlfriend." I said, "sure, where is she?" She leaned back, and I was blown away when this tall blonde angel materialized. I figured, "right, like I'd EVER have a chance with a woman like HER." But then it struck me, "If I take that attitude all my life, I never WILL have a chance with someone like her. Even women like her end up with SOMEBODY, so why NOT me?" And so I struck up a conversation--the first of a lifetime of conversations (my German is a LOT better now).

Like I said, it CAN happen.
