The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAnyone have a "Google Home" device?
I just now ask my Google home, for the first time, to play the news headlines. Now I'm fucking pissed because what did it start playing: FAUX!!
I immediately stopped it, then screamed at the gadget to never play Fox News ever again.
"Sorry I do not understand your command."
Me: "No Fox News."
Google gadget: "Ok, stop playing news."
Any suggestions on how to remedy google's corporate propaganda?
(Btw, Lounge hosts, I don't think this personal experience deserves/rates highly enough to be posted in GD.)

on me!I first asked for Washington Post headlines and it began a Washington Post podcast on Black History Month instead of the headlines. Then I just asked for for Headline News.
Asking for MSNBC news now works after I customize my news feed thru the Google home app. Posted below about that.
Thanks again!

I really don't understand the point of them.

IMO, can be amusing and helpful
But it seems to malfunction at times (could be friend's fault-- don't know)

(28,127 posts)I heard Fox F'n news headlines!!
Forgetting to add items to my grocery list has been a problem for ages for us. Just yelling at google fixed that.

(28,127 posts)is a dumb idea, here's its major uses for hubs and myself:
*Quick temperature check. We walk the dog several times a day and asking Google is a quicker than walking out the door. Helps to know which coat to grab.
**Making a grocery list. When running out or low on an item, it's easier to yell at google to add such&such to the shopping list than washing my hands, grabbing pen and paper and writing it down. It has saved multiple trips to the store...and gasoline.
Besides, the device was on sale and cheap when I ordered.
And if you've never had one, I think it's fucking rude to criticize anyone who does. Don't post to my thread if you just wanna an asshole.

(8,203 posts)I have been paying $10-12 month - I love being able to play music...anything on utube..is on google home..sounds of a tropical rain forest is beautiful..or any other soothing music....especially during some of our most trying days...which is everyday..around politics...it is on day and night..
News..msnbc headlines..tks..never thought to do that...
Question pls...grocery list to shopping list..????
(BTW) some go to extremes with their opinions...no matter where you go, here or anywhere..I just pity them, what a way to go through life..I have learned not to let their behavior ruin my environment...

(28,127 posts)My "grocery shopping list" as just a "shopping list."
It logs everything I tell it to add! I access the shopping list via the Google home app on my phone. I then take the phone to the supermarket with me.
Voila!
Saves time, paper, but more importantly it saves me from forgetting items!

That was helpful and enlightening.
Somehow I don't mind it hearing my ranting after not understanding my requests. I never talk about passwords, acct #'s, or anything like.
Last week during a Google tv add which said, "hey, google...", our device lit up and said, "what can I help you with?"
We hooted.

(28,127 posts)At the suggestion of a customer service person on the Google help site. I could could then block Fox News and customize.
Btw, MSNBC is not offered because it is considered a news discussion program. The customer service rep was very polite and patient with me.
