The state of Washington found that the escaped farmed fish have a disease that could stress our natural salmon even more than they are now. Investigations found Cook company (farmed fish company) did not keep their pens in repair, did not clean them when they should have been cleaned, etc. You know why? Because it costs to maintain pens and reduces PROFIT. A willingness to destroy a specie for profit....capitalism uncontrolled is a disease and should be tightly controlled by the people not well paid politicians.

(32,060 posts)We eat it a couple times a month, and I always thought I was doing the best by only buying wild-caught. Now, evidently, it's anybody's guess as to what you're getting???
How can we be sure that the wild-caught salmon we buy aren't coming down with this disease?
Will this company be fined, penalized, ordered to make any effort to remedy this?

(2,599 posts)Just like when years ago pharma put mercury in vaccines because it was cheaper-more profit. A prime example why capitalism must be tightly controlled by the people not the well paid politicians (the gun lobby being the prime example at the present time). Doesn't make you wonder what else has slipped by the average Joe that had the potential to harm him. This unquestioning acceptance makes me wonder how well is the public manipulated.
