Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt's only February 20th, and I just saw my first Robin!!
This is, hands down, the earliest in the year I can ever remember seeing one. I haven't even seen or heard any geese, yet.
It has been 60 degrees and raining all day, and even though my back yard was a lake, this morning, the ground is already thawed enough for the water to absorb.
Of course, all of these signs of approaching my favorite season, Spring, are going to make the next inevitable snow slam that much harder to take.

(13,110 posts)I heard the return of geese last Friday.
My mother heard them on Saturday.
Spring is not far behind when the geese return.
It should be freezing here.

(26,289 posts)Our temps will be settling back into the 40's, which is still a good 10 degrees above normal. (Flint, MI)
I have to keep reminding myself that one of the worst late snow storms I can remember happened in April.

Haven't seen a robin yet, but we're still knee deep in snow.

(14,167 posts).... the robins will need little snow skis on their feet and a jack hammer to get worms out of the frozen solid lawn.

(57,600 posts)On bitterly cold days, I can look out and see a flock of them out in the yard. It's never one or two; it's always a flock. I think that's been going on for twenty years; I don't know.
As kids, we were told that seeing one was an indicator of spring. Maybe they were common in the winter then too, and I wasn't paying attention.
For me, there's one sure thing they are an indication of: "this is not a good day to have your clothes out drying on the line."
Wow: look at all the record highs set today!

An exceptionally warm day across the Eastern US today, with numerous record high temperatures for February 20th broken or tied. A number of locations set or tied new record highs for any day in February.

(17,216 posts)... it was sad to see them huddling under steam vents in the middle of February in Philadelphia.
Now I'm in Kansas, and saw a robin a couple of weeks ago, even though the temps have not been much different from what they would be in Philly.

(36,885 posts)Today I am hearing Red-winged Blackbirds. I have a love-hate relationship with them (beautiful sights and sounds... been swooped numerous times near nests during mating season. )
