But conversely, I've decided that I am sick of "fixins". I will no longer eat somewhere that proudly announces their food comes with all of them. Or even some of them. I'm over fixins.. "Trimmins" is a very close second.

(72,180 posts)I had a buddy in the Army, peppered every phrase with 'you dig?'
It sounded so cool when he said it. There's no way I could make it sound cool. The only way not to embarrass myself is if it were to come back into general use.

I love it when people confuse their idioms, like
"The cat that ate the pajamas".

(21,202 posts)My mother was a teacher and she had a principle who would constantly confuse idioms. 2 of my favorites were:
"Don't put your neck out on a limb."
" We'll burn that bridge when we come to it."

I worked at a BBQ joint in High school - we had a regular customer who never left without loudly proclaiming "See y'all, Don't let your meat loaf!" Grandpa Shoes Steve is what I called him because he always had on a pair of black wing-tips. 40 years later I find I love wingtips - maybe it's because I am now a grandpa. I have a couple pair and always looking for more. I am positive it was because Steve wore them and I just really liked the guy. Great customer and never a bad word about anyone.
