My dentist fixed my chipped tooth today and I'm relieved. But here's the bad news...

it won't last long. I am going to need a bridge and it will cost $1200.

Mercifully, I have more than enough money on hand to pay for it.

The dentist said my teeth were very thin. But once I get the bridge, it will solve the problem.. And it will look very good.

I like this dentist. He didn't charge me for the fix. He's a nice guy...

I had a canine tooth that was actually a baby tooth that never fell out. Since it wasn't intended to last as long as it did (which was until I retired), it finally cracked and most of it fell out. The only remedy was either a bridge or an implant, and it seemed like a bridge was the best solution. It wasn't cheap (IIRC it was about the same as your cost) but I was very satisfied with the result.

and relieved. I don't look forward to being in the chair for as long as he needs to do the bridge. But it will be worth it.

what people do who can't afford dental visits.

I read about an event (in rural Virginia? I'm not sure) where many dentists set up tents at a fairgrounds and worked on poor folks for free who were in desperate need of dental work. I believe this was in the New York Times a while ago. People drove across states to get in line for this free service. Some folks hadn't seen a dentist in their whole life. The event lasted for 3 days, I think. Hundreds of folks got their free dental visit and were so appreciative. It just infuriates me that in a country like ours, this huge need exists. After I read that, I promised myself I'd never complain about going to the dentist again!
