Lindsey Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac. Since the news broke people have been blaming Stevie Nicks for his dismissal even referencing the #metoo movement as her motivation. While the band has issued a terse statement neither Buckingam nor Nicks have commented. Is this just the good old misogyny machine at work? Is Lindsey Buckingham, formerly of Fleetwood Mac: Rocks biggest jerk or misunderstood genius as the Washington Post asked in this article? https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2018/04/11/lindsey-buckingham-formerly-of-fleetwood-mac-rocks-biggest-jerk-or-misunderstood-genius/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.d67953b637e9
Please let us know if you feel that Stevie is being given a bad rap, if Lindsey is in fact a jerk or if you are just #teamStevie. Please note this is a petition in support of Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie who is now also being criticized for Buckigham's dismissal and to highlight and disarm misogyny in the rock and roll culture.

(39,367 posts)Their breakup resulted in the best song they ever did. And don't bombard me with alternatives. I'm not a big Mac fan, but Dreams is an awesome pop tune.

(33,643 posts)Don't get me wrong, I'll still love all the old music, and I think Christine in particular is awesome ... but I'd not go see the Mac w/o Lindsey. He's 'the show' to me.

(6,974 posts)14 (Well, since I was old enough to understand all that type of "Love/emotional Stuff" that went on in Fleetwood Mac :chuckle and I'll soon be 57. Now, I know that they stopped inter-band dating years ago, but the fighting (Musical differences), and disagreements continued because they're all human. I'm not team ANYBODY. LOVE their music--it's still a big part of my life/memories. I wish them all well and hope that they can work out their differences. But, if they can't and it's not meant to be in this 21st century ..... I'll accept a Lindsay Buckhamg less Fleetwood Mac, because I know that ALL good things come to an end eventually. That's life too.
Now, let me go listen to Dreams before Randi Rhodes comes on. Oh, and just in case Fleetwood Mac DOES become Buckingham less for GOOD at this late date:

(1,151 posts)Everyone involved in the band seems to have issues. As a much bigger Neil Finn fan than I am a FM fan, I've been scratching my head over why he'd want to involve himself with a band drowning in so much drama all the time.

(1,151 posts)so just that's my take from what little I know of the band over the years. Even for outsiders it seems like that band is always feuding over something.
The news definitely caused a big stir in the Neil Finn fan community, which is why I even know about it. I don't hate Fleetwood Mac, in fact I like quite a few songs, but I hate spending hundreds of dollars for nosebleed seats at an arena. So I've never been one to go to shows like this. Not sure if Neil joining the tour will change my mind on that.

(102,200 posts)I certainly don't put blame this on any particular member. It isn't like this is the first time this has happened.
That said, i really enjoy Buckingham and this makes me unlikely to want to see them, though I love the rest of the band as well.

(33,512 posts)...that Stevie Nicks was a sign from God that cocaine is bad for you.
I never thought of Stevie Nicks as a great feminist icon because I never thought about her at all.
They're entertainers. I think I may know what a few of their catchy tunes are, but they're just catchy tunes, nothing earth shattering.
I really don't care what they fight about. It's none of my business.

Don't trivialize real life by asking me to take cartoon characters seriously.
To compare Stevie Nicks to a woman in a woman's shelter is to be oblivious, and trivializing and frankly a little bit obscene.
How people come up with these kinds of associationson the internet - not caring about Stevie Nicks is the same as the tragedy of domestic abuse - is extremely disturbing...
You know, the beat I study on this website is the environment and its relationship to human poverty, seen through a prism of the scientific literature.
You comment reminds me of the kind of people who carry on about the importance of Elon Musk's stupid car for billionaires and millionaires as if it mattered, this on a planet where hundreds of thousands of people die - most of them children - because as the World Health Organization reports, 2.1 billion people lack access to clean water.
If there were 1/50th as many people who gave a shit about that fact - the lack of clean water for billions of people - as do the sordid lives of some stupid rock stars somewhere, or, to mention a similarly insipid bourgeois affectation, Tesla cars, the world would be a decent place.
But it's not a decent place. It's a cartoon, bread and circuses.
History will not forgive us, nor should it.
