Cardiologist. At almost age 60, I'm the youngest person in there by far. I'm sitting there browsing on my phone.
As a former smoker, I can really smell it on someone's clothes now. This man comes in and walks up to the reception window. He gives his birthday for identification, so I know he is 84. He smelled like he power smoked 3 cartons of cigarettes just before he came in.
Receptionist: Ok, Mr. X, we need you to complete some paperwork.
Mr. X: I'm not filling anything out.
Receptionist: Why?
Mr. X: Because I don't want to honey, how's that?
Receptionist: OK, please have a seat and you'll be called in shortly.
As Mr. X walks to his chair, he mumbles to no one in particular in a loud voice: JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I'M HERE TO GET MY HEART LOOKED AT, NOT TO FILL OUT SOME GODDAMN PAPERWORK. Then he sat down, farted, and laughed.
Everyone in the waiting room was mortified. I had to cover my mouth because I was cracking up.

(24,053 posts)Receptionists in medical offices have a thankless job. Inaccurate/outdated information can give insurance companies reasons to deny a claim. Our receptionists explain that to parents all the time.
What an asshole. Maybe he should have been at a proctology office.

(14,175 posts)...... last patient called in to see the doc. Reeks of tobacco smoke. He has less respect for his body than anyone else on the planet. And on top of it all he is rude and cantankerous with no just cause.

(2,343 posts)If i ever make it to that age, I'm going nucking futs! Forget doctor visits! I'm gonna do every drug i can get my hands on, cocaine, LSD, heroin, etc. I'm trying them all! You only live once, and by that age, you're almost to the end. What's that saying? It's better to burn out than fade away (?), or something to that affect.

(16,386 posts)I give people paperwork to fill-out and they squawk. There are things we need to check and double-check. We have a form for patients to fill out before they undergo an MRI so we can make sure they're safe to go into a three million dollar magnet. They don't complete the questionnaire, they don't get the study, it's as simple as that.

(58,719 posts)would simplify most of that paperwork. It's mostly for the Insurance companies, anyway.

(66,467 posts)If someone is disrespectful to my staff, he gets thrown out of the clinic, usually by me.
If a patient is disrespectful, profane, or otherwise anti-social, and I agree to visit with him anyway, I usually have several hundred legitimate reasons to complete what I'm working on before going in to visit with him. While keeping him waiting may not improve his behavior, rewarding him for it definitely won't.

(17,460 posts)She slid the glass window close as he began to walk away. The people in the waiting room sure heard it though.
I think the woman behind the glass may have dealt with him before, because she just kind of smiled and shook her head.
What got me was that he was SUPER nice to the nurse who brought him back.

(20,219 posts)All that paperwork has to be filled out so DOCTORS WILL GET PAID.

(17,460 posts)He was actually charming to the lady at the desk, in his own sarcastic way. And he was very nice to the nurse who brought him in back. I wouldn't call the guy an asshole.
