Introducing: Mr.L's Lyric Challenge 2.0

In honor of the great success and fun of Lyric Challenge 1, we have decided to announce an all new season 0f

MR L's LYRIC CHALLENGE 2.0

Rules are:
Don't start out too obscure or too obvious. Half the fun of the game is having that fine point of challenge and having someone know your tune. Post just a couple lines or song lyrics. You may later be asked for hints.

Try to stick to artists/ bands that at least 1/3 of the population have likely heard.

Please put song titles, artist names, in the body of the of text and NOT in the subject line. Give new visitors a shot at guessing without seeing an answer posted in the subject line.

NO GOOGLE CHEATING..

Here's the link to the original. 700 posts was so cumbersome.

Song one:

Seems to me you don't want to talk about it.
Seems to me you just turn your pretty head and walk away.

Song two:

Two of us sending postcards, writing letters on my wall
You and me burning matches, lifting latches

Song three:

The Can Can's such a pretty dance. It will steal your heart away.

all these are seventies.

I put it on my playlist a couple weeks ago. I rode to St. Louis yesterday and heard the song. When it came to that line, I think near the end of the song, I thought, wow, that is some really nice writing.

It’s sort of a sweet song. I like it...sounds good on the highway.

I get to!

Isn't it called :
You and Me - aka opening track on Let It Be?

in which case, LA, you kinda gave it away with that lyric choice

As you did in the second case I believe:
Walk Away - The James Gang ft. Joe Walsh

Young Americans -- David Bowie

I love that song because it feels like a frantic ride that I couldn't get off of even if I wanted to. The only time he takes a minute to breathe, he's talking about goddam Nixon (still a very open wound back then), and then right back to the crazy!

became the rock anthem of the Pacific NorthWest after being interpreted by many NW bands
in the 60’s and beyond.

My personal favorites are Robin Roberts & the Wailers, The Sonics and Paul Revere & the Raiders versions.

The song became the object of attention by 60’s era politicians because they couldn’t
understand the lyrics, as sung, and thought they might be obscene.

I didn’t have any trouble understanding the lyrics.

Lost In The Dream pretty much exploded, and was #1 on the Album of The Year (2014) list on like 4 or 5 major review sites, and top 10 on pretty much ALL of them. I was very happy to see that at year-end as I'd been loving it the whole 2nd half of 2014. It's just .. SO SO freaking good, top to bottom.

...I'll message you links to his last appearance on Letterman.
I don't want to hijack this thread.

He is very much a special person.

He reminds me a lot an ex-boyfriend of my wife. He was a very colorful Irishman. I think he was around 40 went he called her to tell her that he had pancreatic cancer and maybe had a few months remaining. She said he was kind of afraid and they talked off and on over the next several weeks. At one point she was trying tell him about a book that was about loving yourself and trying to remember the name of the doctor who wrote it. She said, "His name is... I can almost remember... It's doctor, um, wait I'll think of it... doctor..."
and at that point he interjected, "Kevorkian?" He started laughing and decided he was quite clever.

You have a great evening.

These may be crowd sourced so YMMV:

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray
I've been for a walk on a winter's day
I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A.
California dreamin' on such a winter's day

Stopped in to a church I passed along the way
Well I got down on my knees and I pretend to pray
You know the preacher liked the cold
He knows I'm gonna stay
California dreamin' on such a winter's day

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray
I've been for a walk on a winter's day
If I didn't tell her I could leave today
California dreamin' on such a winter's day
California dreamin' on such a winter's day
California dreamin' on such a winter's day

I decided after playing this awhile and realizing I was jumping on answering on even on ones i don't like, it might be nicer to leave them for folks who like them so they can rave about the song and commiserate with whoever posted it.but sometime i still can't resist if it is like a big 'aha' to me that i remember the thing.

Not to be difficult but this one peaked at #9 on Billboard's top 100 in 1974.
Did really well in this land resistant to languages not English.

Interesting songwriter/singer and a band with the ironic name.."Gun Club."

He wrote dozens and dozens of songs, had a voice as unstructured as Dylan
and was a friend and protege of Chris Stein and Deborah Harry, though a totally different
music style.

He played a mean guitar.

So much better at what he did then most, but died like so many of the others.

Sorry, just wondered if anyone else knew about Jeffrey Lee Pierce's lyrics.

90's British Rock/Alt/Pop ... HUUUUUUUGE album, worldwide, at the time, with multiple hit songs, of which this is one ...

As far as epic album closers go, it doesn't get much better than this. It's the 'When The Levee Breaks' to Zeppelin IV, it's the 'Won't Get Fooled Again' to Who's Next, the 'Purple Rain' to Purple Rain, the 'Day in the Life' to Sergeant Pepper ... you get the idea?

Interestingly, here's peak chart positions for the two ...

Champagne Supernova
US Billboard Hot 100 Airplay 20
US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks 1
US Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks 8
US Billboard Adult Top 40 Tracks 33
US Billboard Mainstream Top 40 10

Wonderwall
US Billboard Hot 100 8
US Alternative Songs (Billboard) 1
US Mainstream Rock (Billboard) 9
US Adult Top 40 (Billboard) 30
US Mainstream Top 40 (Billboard) 10

Both are also certified 'Gold' Records (>500,000 copies sold) in the US.

They're pretty darn close to being 'equal hits' at least in the US, believe it or not ... and both definitely qualify as 'hits' and 'iconic', by a band 30% of people have heard of

Now, my JUST PREVIOUS British song, I'll admit broke the 'rules' a bit. But if you're English and not really young, you definitely know that song ... though you may not know the band off the top of your head ... and it was definitely on the radio here a bit as well ...

Love Wonderwall, pretty much can't stand CS.

The only reason I knew the words is because of what I perceived to be the overplay of it on the radio.

This is all my hangup of course.

This one is a duet with a fellow quirky British artist ... of the opposite gender ... who never hit really the big time, but was revered nonetheless.

And at least two of the songs from this earlier 3-album catalog have been 'the answer', between our two threads, but nothing from this particular 4th album.
