Served in Vietnam war, passed several years ago from unrelated illness. They included POW bracelet in coffin when he was interred.

RIP...and thank you for your service, my friend...

I wore his bracelet until he was released. I then put it away and forgot it for 30+ years. I then looked up his address & returned it to him with a note.

He & his wife Anne wrote a book about his time as a prisoner & how she coped as a "waiting wife", as they were called back then, during his imprisonment. They autographed a copy & sent it to me. Very touching book.

until I was able to go to the Vietnam Memorial in DC and get an etching of his name. He died in the war, as far as I know nobody knows anything about where he lays. I got it around 1970 and wore it until the late 90's when I was able to find out what had happened to him. The bracelet is now with the etching in a box somewhere. I was very attached to that bracelet and the man it represented, it felt like the least I could do for someone drafted to fight in a war I did not believe in.

I was just in grade school or maybe junior high. The $3 for the copper one seemed like a pretty big investment for me at the time. It turned green. It also turned me green - at least that wrist. My mother started making me take it off for showers so I wouldn't have a green wrist. That must have stressed it because one day it just broke in half. I don't remember the name and never knew if he made it back. I hope so.
