The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWell, it's been fun, but I gotta go
I'm in the Atlanta airport waiting for my flight back to Düsseldorf, where I arrive tomorrow morning at 9 local time. I was in the States for 2 weeks, visiting with my brother in northern Virginia and some political types across the river in DC, then Chicago, then Dallas, where I left this morning. I have to be in Germany tomorrow, Spain on Friday, the usual grind begins anew.
Just a reminder for all y'all left Stateside--tip your heads up a bit, if you would. Now look around. See all those throats? They are NOT your targets. Republicans are. (just in case a few seem to have forgotten, or are here because they are paid to make it seem that way).

(60,435 posts)Somewhere anyway. I'm now back home in Düsseldorf. My punishment (professional, not personal) for being away for two weeks, is that I have to run around Europe like a Jason Bourne movie for the next two weeks, starting tomorrow in Spain. Then Belgium, France, Denmark, various parts of Germany, and undoubtedly a few other of the usual suspects (e.g. Holland, Switzerland).
However, with any luck, things will calm down the last part of May, and then we should be around with a little more reliability.

(60,435 posts)I just flew from Dallas to Atlanta, changed planes, and landed in Düsseldorf this morning ahead of schedule. Delta may not have the newest planes on this route, but they have the only reliably regular nonstops from the South to Düsseldorf, and that flight is ALWAYS full.

(8,999 posts)Hubby and I decided to sell the house. Im going to go shack up with him in Basel again. Ive never been in that part of Germany. Would love to head that way and shake your hand. Thank you for representing Americans abroad so well. Its appreciated. Prost.
DFW
(60,435 posts)It might be due to Basel being in Switzerland
But it is on the border, and I hear that Freiburg/Breisgau is a beautiful area to live in. The city is wonderful, anyway. I'm all the way up the Rhein, close to the border with the Netherlands, but these days, that's just a short 4 hour train ride. Let me know if you're in the neighborhood!

(8,999 posts)I've been to Amsterdam a couple of time. I have an online friend in Hannover, so I'd like to go up and meet her too. We lived in Stuttgart between 07-09. I'll let you know if we're in the neighborhood in the next 12 months. Spouse is hoping for a transfer to SF CA sometime in '19. Ciao.
DFW
(60,435 posts)Amsterdam is actually slightly farther north than Düsseldorf is, but in essence, we're a short 3 hour (or less!) train ride due east of Amsterdam.
I just woke up so I'm a little foggy yet. I haven't been to Berlin and have been wanting to get up there too but in the summertime. Ha
DFW
(60,435 posts)Berlin is a group of smaller towns cobbled together into a city. Fascinating place, give yourself some time, and do NOT miss Potsdam while you're there!

DFW
(60,435 posts)Besides, I'm in other countries at least as much as I'm in Germany (day job and all).
However, you can get used to almost anything, and being married to one of the friendly natives helps.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
