What is a "great movie"?

One that lasts over many years, and is just as effective as what is what supposed to do (whatever that is) after it is seen many times.

50 years ago I saw a great comedy. "The Producers" I saw it when it came out, and I saw it last week. I enjoyed it a great deal after seeing it maybe 8 or 9 times. Almost as much as the first time..Maybe in a different way, since I knew the story and the acting. Zero Mostel was great as was Gene Wilder and Dick Shawn. But the fact that I knew what was going to happen, and what was to be said did not matter. What mattered it was still effective in giving laughter and joy...How about these lines, "We go to motel?..go to motel?...No, we don't go to motel...",,,Or..."That's our Hitler." Other films have the same effect.

What do you think?.....What about this one..."What happened to the $8000?" I had it is gone..or....

"That is no planet, it is a space station."

A fun, great flick, with Arkin and Falk relentlessly playing with the audience.

It's a real joy of a film.

With him. He has been in so many excellent movies. It's so upsetting when anything like that happens, he's a gifted actor, unfortunately also a sick pervert. Many of those movies, will now be missed by many that would have loved them. I understand why people feel this way, I'm trying to separate the actors, etc. from their bodies of work. I can't think of a single movie he has been in, that I don't at least like, I love most of them. I adored him since I was a young teen.😔

Being really upset, but not absolutely. I heard rumors about the XMen guy and a party with Spacey for a very long time, I so hoped it wouldn't be true. I felt like I was punched, not the same as Al F., which I know something is very wrong with. K.S. basically admitted ir.

8. I think the first "great movie" that I saw was.."Some Like it Hot"

I saw it with a group of friends. I recall coming out of the film, feeling something very special. It was more than just a funny movie. It was kind of a special.. "experience" Twenty five years later I saw "Singing in the Rain." on a big screen for the first time. I had heard about it, but never seen it. Same special experience..
.... A very sad one...that just about made me cry was a late 60s version of Romeo and Juliet. Nevertheless all of these films were a lasting feeling of involvement and being taken in by the film and the story. More than just the acting, but all that makes a movie special. Oh, got to add another, the first Star Wars Film, in 1977. Incredible feeling after seeing it. ...and that one is truly a "great movie"

The Magdalene Sisters
Rabbit Proof Fence
Last of the Mohicans
12 O'Clock High

Those are what come to mind off the top of my head.

because it will always live on..always....a great "love story" , and a great story too.
I am very glad you mentioned that. I would love to see that on a big screen again. Something so special that it defines "great."

Not always a "Worthy Movie" or an Oscar-winning movie, but one I keep enjoying. Star Wars IV is a "B" movie through and through it is not a Worthy Movie or an Oscar Movie... but it is a great movie to me because, gosh darnit I enjoy it.
