(27,792 posts)Michael Pare' was great as Cody.
Wasn't William Dafoe the leader of the biker gang that kidnapped Diane Lane!
(He's one of my favorite actors)
I don't think the critics liked it much, but I loved it.
Wasn't it directed by Walter Hill?
I think Rick Moranis was in it, but I forget what character he played..
[it's been a long time since I saw it]
LastLiberal in PalmSprings
(12,577 posts)The first time, I didn't like it. I thought the acting was stilted, especially Rick Moranis' take on the manager of Ellen Aim (Diane Lane) and the Attackers. I also didn't understand the world they were living in. It kind of looked like Chicago but not Chicago, and the red car didn't have any brand identifier on it.
The second time, it was like, "Wow! This is the greatest movie ever!"
I agree, Michael Pare' played the laconic Cody to a T. This was also the first time I saw Willem Dafoe, who played Raven Shaddock, the leader of the Bombers. He knocked by socks off.
Other tidbits:
On posters and in the opening credits, it reads, "Streets of Fire -- A Rock & Roll Fable"
Deborah Van Valkenburgh, who played Tom Cody's sister, Reva, later starred on the television show "Too Close for Comfort," alongside Ted Knight of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."
The girl dancing on the table in the Bombers' club was played by Marine Jahan, who doubled for Jennifer Beales during dance scenes in "Flashdance." There was a big to-do in Hollywood about the fact she didn't get a credit in the film because the producers wanted to create the illusion that Beales was doing her own dancing.
Holly Shaddock sang Ellen Aim's songs.
Amy Madigan, later of "Field of Dreams," played Cody's rough and tumble sidekick.
The Sorels got at least one hit song from the film: "I Can Dream About You."
The following actors also appeared in the film: Bill Pullman, Bill Paxton, Robert Townsend, Ed Begley Jr. and Kathy Griffin.
You're right. The film was directed by Walter Hill.
Thanks for the trip through memory lane.

(50,546 posts)Since Walter Hill directed both movies, that's understandable.

(27,792 posts)Norman Fell was great as the landlord of the rooming house near UC Berkeley.
[He did not like Hoffman at all]
[Norman Fell was a member of the "Rat Pack"]
Mike Nichols was a great director!
Also, I loved Nichols & May, especially "My Son the Nurse"

(38,414 posts)Walter Matthau was the other star...If you have not seen it...it is great..and very funny.....totally underrated.

(27,792 posts)Speaking of Walter Matthau movies, have you seen "Charlie Varrick?
It's a great but underrated crime film.
Matthau plays a crop duster & former stunt pilot.
The script is great!

(50,546 posts)Him saying it in "The Last Action Hero" was the best, though...
(Since no one saw this: it was the story of a teenager who accidentally got transported into the movie he was watching, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger...the kid knew it was a movie, but Arnold's character believed it was real life and he's screwing with the kid for continually saying they were in a movie. The Arnold character recites the "I'll be back" line, and then...
"I bet you didn't know I was going to say that, did you?"
'You always say that! It's like your catchphrase!')
