What trendy food fads are you totally over?

For me, it's....

Sea salt on chocolate, caramels, anything sweet
Sunny side up eggs on effing everything!
Rainbow food
Food in mason jars
Deconstructed food
Overly complicated food with too many ingredients

That's all I can think of right now, but I am sure more will turn up once I hear from all of you.

Borscht.

Boil some beef fat and bones. Send broth into another pot via strainer and cheese cloth. Let cool until ready.

Add beats, cabbage, and dill. And if you feel adventurous, add, throw in some other veges, I like to add jalapenos, onion and garlic. Add salt and pepper.

Cook until tender.

Ladle into bowl. Throw in a heaping tablespoon of sour cream if you want. Use home made rye bread as your spoon...then a loshka once you run out.

Pretty hard to fuck that up. However, my mother in law did...thankfully, the wife didn't inherit her cooking skills. So she kills it every time.

Basically it's their effort to do everything possible to make it NOT taste like a brussel sprout which taste like a stagnant sewer.

Absolutely hated them as a kid but Mom made me eat them. It was one of my main goals as a parent to never introduce let alone force my child to eat them. Every foodie restaurant we go to has some treatment of these god awful things on their menu. She tried them (she is a great eater mostly thanks to her mother) and she likes them. Truth be told I've tried a bit here and there and they are too bad. What to know why? Because they DON'T TASTE LIKE BRUSSEL SPROUTS. Seriously some of the lengths these chefs go to could make a shoe edible.

In an attempt to make these things healthy or less “processed”. There’s a reason Mom made the tuna casserole with canned soup - it was good! Yeah there’s too much salt in some things but for an easy weeknight dinner I’ll just make it the old way, thank you. Hint - cream of celery soup is way better than cream of mushroom in recipes.
Practically raw beef dishes especially burgers - yuck, and possible food poisoning! The ONLY thing I agree with Dolt 45 is the way steak should be cooked (for me anyway). But no ketchup on steak.

Some food is generational. My kids love sushi, it will never pass my lips. My parents (RIP), of the Greatest Generation, would not eat tacos or Chinese or anything remotely "ethnic" except pizza and spaghetti.

When I was growing up (in South Florida), my father was pretty much of the opinion that all seafood, but especially crustaceans, were the work of the devil. This was odd as he was an avid snailer (for research, not food). No fish, even tuna, ever crossed my lips.

When I went to work for a couple of years in Micronesia, I saw how wrong my father was... and BTW, Now, I prefer my bait naked,
sashimi style.

Tuna is good right off the boat and I love raw oysters with sour cream and caviar. But that’s it. And NO fishy Nori or gummy rice. Yuck.

I blend em & pour into tall glasses ...

Everyone gulps it down and runs to school/work .

On weekends we relax and eat what we feel like.

It's not a fad as much as a convenience thing for us.

You take a pack of hotdogs tie them together to make a crown. You fill the crown with Cheese Whiz, and generously place sauerkraut around the crown. Then you microwave on HIGH until the whole house smells 'real good.'

90. "clean eating"

Not eating food off the floor? How about an unwashed apple right off the tree? Does it mean you have to soak, deodorize and sanitize every piece of lettuce and carrot that you ingest?

Not that I am against eating unprocessed food, it's the ridiculous title. It was once called...just eating healthy.

I picture food covered in mud that needs to be washed - and there would always be some grit left. I know that's not what they mean, but that's what goes through my mind...

I've seen them come and go, and the one I want to see disappear faster than the Atkins diet is this gluten-free thing.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the people with celiac disease that they now have loads of options, but when the fad passes, will there be enough providers left for this niche?

I had a gluten-free pizza crust a few years ago in Kentucky, it really tasted worse than the cardboard box in came in.

They now do gluten-free "bread" for Holy Communion. This stuff has the texture of compressed sand. I have already gone back to the pew and discreetly spit it out into a Kleenex. I am truly going to burn in Hell.

even though I thought I wouldn't. It definitely doesn't beat mashed potatoes, but it was still pretty good. I think I would draw the line at cauliflower pizza dough, although I haven't tried it.

In fact, I never got on that train. Sure, I like the flavor of bacon, but there are some things that don't need to be bacon-flavored.

Don't try to make my pizza, burger, mac and cheese, etc gourmet. They're classics for a reason, don't mess with them.

I am kind of a purist. Just plain turkey, mashed potatoes (nothing fancy in them), plain butternut squash w/ butter, regular bread dressing cooked outside the bird (so it isn't soggy). I will allow some creativity w/ the vegetable dishes and desserts, but there are certain staples that I don't like messed with. The same with what you mentioned above. I like them in their purest form. One thing I really hate is ranch dressing on pizza! Ugh! What is wrong with people?

They want everything gourmet. Luckily their kids (3, 5) disagree. The Thanskgiving before the oldest was born, everything was all fancy. What is wrong with basic mashed potatoes?

to traditional meals, I like to stick with tradition. My mother and sister always like to add things like sour cream , cream cheese, etc. to the mashed potatoes so I always have to ask them to make me a separate portion of plain mashed potatoes because you just can't mess with simple perfection.
