(34,133 posts)Step 1
Remove the beer stain. If the stain is still wet, soak up as much as you can with a towel and then scrub with water or soda water to dilute and soak up. If the beer has dried, wet it with water or soda water and scrub from the outer edges to the middle. Shampoo the area to get a set-in stain out. Let the upholstery dry for 24 hours.
Step 2
Sprinkle baking soda on the beer-stained area and rub it into the upholstery with your hands. Baking soda is an absorbent odor remover that can be effective on organic odors. Let it sit for a week.
Step 3
Vacuum the baking soda out of the carpet. If the beer odor still lingers in the car, move on to Step 4.
Step 4
Run an ozone generator inside your closed car according to the manufacturer's instructions. The ozone molecules break down organic molecules into gases that do not have a smell. Open the car doors for at least 15 minutes after using the ozone generator to allow the excess ozone to disperse, because it can irritate the lungs. Ozone can also corrode rubber and damage fabrics, so it should only be used sparingly and as a last resort for bad beer smells.

(50,546 posts)If that doesn't work, have the carpet shampooed, then call around to funeral homes to see if anyone will sell you a cup of Neutrolene. That product will eradicate the smell of a rotting corpse (which is what it was invented to do) so it should work wonders on beer smell.
Oh...and quit buying beer in cans. Bottles are more durable.

Apply 6-10 sprays to the skin of the body, depending on the condition. Apply 3-6 sprays on the external genitalia. Once packed, apply 3 sprays in each nostril. Spray lightly on the outer clothing, as needed. (Note: Can be used in and on a fiberboard container by applying as needed.)

(7,947 posts)Put water-soaked towels on to draw as much out as possible.
Dried with a blowdryer.
Put about 3 boxes of baking soda where it had spilled.
A couple days later, vacuumed up the baking soda. No smell!
Also, leave the windows open as much as you can. There's a deodorizer you can get at the hardware store= I think it's called Air Dry. It's in a white plastic container. Leave that open under your seat. It deodorized my trunk when I'd left a sandwich in there during a heatwave.

(26,403 posts)Like the one used for Cat Urine. The enzymes handle a fair number of organic compounds.
Also, some of the specialty cleaners used by the steam carpet manufacturers may help if that doesn't work.

(16,376 posts)When my aunt died (Arkansas) I had to bring her car back with me cross-country to Denver to sell and it smelled terrible. She was a hoarder, so it was a mixture of that awful hoarder-house smell mixed in with her White Linen perfume. Horrible. I drove with the windows open as much as possible but that did almost nothing. As soon as I got it home I filled several saucers up with vinegar and sat those on the floor mats in the car and just let it evaporate. After that I did the usual carpet and upholstery shampoo. It ended up smelling good enough to sell, although I swear I could still smell it, other couldn't.

(12,904 posts)Mold/mildew smell can be removed from old furniture by putting bleach in a shallow bowl, and closing the bowl inside a drawer (for cabinet type furniture). Leave it there for a few days, and it should remove a lot of mildew smell.
Could work for car, too, maybe.

Their enzymatic odor-neutralizing cleaners are indeed miraculous.
One time we were camping and our dog had a very close encounter with a skunk. He was an eternal optimist so it wasn't the first time and we were prepared. We used their skunk-off product on him--sorta scrubbing it on with a damp rag--and we were able to have him in the tent that night. Amazing!

(20,489 posts)First, get some of the stinkiest nastiest old dirt weed you can find. Roll the windows up and burn it in an old tin can or something...but don't smoke it (because of step number 2).
Then, keeping the windows rolled up, drive rapidly up and down the street.
If the cops stop you, just explain what you are doing. It'll be cool.
After 5 or 6 days of following my advise, that smell will be gone.

There is a product called Ozium. It it excellent at killing odors in cars. You can get it at most automotive parts stores.

(23,631 posts)Odor should go away in a few days anyway, particularly with the warmer weather, but the coffee grounds will also leave a good smell in the car. If you don't want to trade the smell of beer for coffee, then just place several boxes of Baking Soda in the car. Also absorbs odors very well without leaving a substitute odor.

At least "some kids I knew" in high school used ozium for that purpose
