Don't any of you laugh dammit!
He loves to watch the clouds go by
A story in the sky only he understands.
His back on the grass, relaxed and content
I dream of lying with him; this silent man.

Oh-No-Really?!
Aquarius enlightened us
Now we can see the chaos
What the hell happened?
What has become of us?
The elected takes dues
Huge pockets of greed
Weren't we prepared?
Hate is now freed.
Oh-No-Really, they say
Reality must have missed
The freedom to choose what's ugly
A world craving to be pissed.
The children were taken
Mothers without their babe
Seeking protection from oligarchs
From murder. From war. Poor needing saved
But Oh-No-Really, the people overcome
A democracy in peril
Trading anger for being numb
A new day shall rise
The brightness of a million souls
Come together with open hearts
And there shall be no more trolls.
(I have too big an imagination and too much time on my hands lol)

I'm a 90s chick, but I love the Beatles. I just watched an Eric Clapton biography. I didn't realize how close he and George Harrison were! Just a bunch of teenagers playing music

(11,343 posts)Come with me, friend
Take hold of my hand
Today I shall show you
Where I write in the sand
To this beach I tell secrets
The things left unsaid
The memories of the forgotten
This story unread
Each word etched in the sand
Each phrase gone with the tide
Hard to come, easy go.
A special place that I hide.
(I'm kinda dark. Hope you like it!)

(149,625 posts)I've dabbled myself, and I think this is quite nice.
You might want to take a look at creative writing or poetry courses at your local community college. They can really give you a great start.
Also, READ poetry. I find that reading poets who I enjoy help me get into a poetic frame of mind. One of my big favorites is Todd Boss. Google him and have a look. When I grow up, I want to write like he does!
Yours has a lovely cadence to it. Try reading it out loud and you'll hear it.
There is no need for rhyming!
Best of luck!

(11,343 posts)I read it out loud and I actually FELT it! Sometimes I wish I lived in the city and go to open poetry sessions! I'm an odd bird. I love the beat of hip hop, but I love the words of Emily Dickinson! Yeats is another favorite of mine, as well as others.
We are each of us angels
With only one wing
We can only fly
By holding on to each other
(I read that on a bathroom stall A a music festival)

(11,343 posts)California, the bright golden sun
Awakens the coastline
Dreams. Possibilities. The west has won.
The hippies, the city
The barefoot soldiers
Redwoods, their soul friends
Made a truce to endure.
To exist. To be breath
To be captured by life
A prisoner to adventure
A passenger on the origin of time.
Peggy, while waiting
An aura of hope
Kindness, respect, and warmth
A bright strand in time's rope

(149,625 posts)That is lovely!
(Although, I would use some other word for awakens, the second time, since you already used it.)
But my god, that's gorgeous!
I am very touched.

Tennessee whiskey warms the coldest heart

From afar I'm warm; my heart doth confides.

(70,696 posts)Here's my nautical one:
I have heard knell
a shipboard bell
the hours on a glass blue sea.
And I have heard yell
sailors, swabbies, and swells
with pitching 'twixt fish and fowl free.
Oft' have had quell'd
my sun sweat smell
by salt spray - bare, burned back to lee.
Have let alone dwell
a green eyed belle
as I skipped to my 'mates with glee.
For I have heard knell
a shipboard bell
the hours on a glass blue sea!

Im having fun, so humor me!
DU is fun, DU is cool
We're as stubborn and steadfast as a bullheaded mule
We have our fights, we share our concerns
But when we come together-
So many views we have learned!
The tent fits all sizes but we sometimes forget
We welcome the brave travelers:
And settle our debts.
We love the earth, as we share this world
The trees, the waters, the sands, the ice
We respect nature's creatures
Who pay the humans price.
Peace world. I hope we can coexist one sunny day

(11,343 posts)Darkness lit by fireflies
The day shall rest
The skylucy shines above
Blessing a certain music fest
The twirlers of fire: the singers of heart
The journey embarked upon
A mysterious fresh start.
The sun gives us sight
The clouds are but a muse
When the last ray recedes
There's curiosity to choose
The dance is as one
The rhythm of a thousand feet
Skylucy hums her melody
A million souls meet
One life. One breath to share. The earth as one
A stranger. An alien. An emergance of the dark sun

(11,343 posts)A master of nothing lol. I'm trying to write a song that I can play on my guitar. Wednesday night blues...(12bar)
I met me a crackling Charlie
He led me to that hill
I took his hand, I held on tight
I thought this could not be real
I love some Charlie, baby
I need some Charlie, baby
My internet Charlie, baby
Just leave me to beg, I can't trust my own head
I'm blinded by chance
I won't have no romance
Forget all the words I just said
...... Lol hope you like! (And hope it's not weird, I'm in a zone)

(12,904 posts)But Cracklin Charlies a girl, baby!
Im named after my tiny 4 pound toy poodle. I used to drive her with me to work everyday, and we would listen to the oldies station. At the same point in our drive, every day, Cracklin Rosie by Neil Diamond would play. Charlie became Cracklin Charlie!
She is now 13 years old, and still 4 damn pounds of nasty poodle woman!
Thanks for the song, I love the blues!

(11,343 posts)I'm so bad at guessing genders. I'm sorry. Alot of DUers think I'm a guy. I will write you a makeup song!
Oh, my sweet Crackling Charlie Lady
Where'd I go so wrong?
Sweet, sweet Charlie Girl
I'm gonna write a new song
How'd you get so cool girl?
Got the blues deep in your soul
You know the blues had a baby
And they called it rock and roll!
My favorite blues singers/players are Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Etta James, and John Lee hooker

Rhiannon The Observer was sent to explore
New boats arriving on DU's shore.
She sent for a team, a group with the sight
Appointed by "the elders", to help the good fight
Trolls can be tricky, using mischief and lies
To cause us to fight, to argue, to split
Chaos and hate are the hearts of these souls
They can't pretend long without starting some shit
Spammers are persistent, all day and all night
A legion of sellers want to show off their wares
Bloggers for hire, Indian condos for rent
Internet poker and high dollar time shares

Since you're in a romantic mood:
A Thought for Mr Khayyam
The poet Omar wanted only
Wine, a loaf, and thou
To satisfy his hungers
Amidst the endless Now.
But he's a guy, and
Maybe love is not enough for him.
Perhaps he needs distractions
Before he can begin.
But I will lay me down with you
Wherever we may be.
And drink intoxication from
The everlasting We.

Pavlovs Dog Needs Only One Iteration
I hate pizza, I said, and she smiled
as she held up a wedge to my mouth.
A bite, the cheese and sauce blending
on my tongue; crunch of crust as I chew, then swallow.
A few bites more, and then with mischief in her eyes
she presses her lips to my startled mouth.
Quick flicker of tongue, as she steals a crumb,
a taste cooler than any liquid to wash down
the commingled flavors.
God, I love pizza.
