... he was worse against several others. .311 against Luis Tiant in 30 tries, for instance.

Among pitchers whom he faced at least 100 times, Bob Lemon had him worst with a .712 OPS, which is pretty good when you get down to it.

have faced Tiant toward the end of his career. I wouldn’t have thought that about Bob Lemon. Good stat.

... Mantle was slightly poorer against RHP than LHP, but not a lot by OPS. And though Lemon was a good pitcher, he was hardly overwhelming. Some matchups just work weird.
